I have used this several times now and it works great. You may want to trim the plastic tube as in my opinion, it is way to long. While this item is not necessary when changing oil, it really makes it cleaner and keeps oil from spilling everywhere when you remove the filter cover. I use this on my son's 2006 GTI. If you are thinking about doing your own oil, you will want to buy a filter socket as well as these types of filters are not easy to remove without it.

Assenmacher Specialty Tool
I like to change my own oil but was a messy adventure. I ordered this product to help make changing the oil less messy. This product is a high quality product in terms of the length and quality of the tubing, the screw on portion and operational aspects. However, I had difficulty aligning the head to the filter. Maybe it was because I don't have the car on a lift. from the top of the car I can reach the bottom of the filter but after several times I couldn't get the threads to match in order to screw on the tool to the filter. I removed the filter with a filter tool and it was messy and tried the Assenmacher and it works (I thought the assenmacher was the wrong size at first so I removed the filter with a traditional filter tool).I'll have to practice more with it at next oil changes.

Makes my oil changes easier.
Works really well. The swivel brass end is key. Be careful when threading to make sure not to cross thread. The tube is a bit long but that's a simple fix. Wish it had a clip at the end of the hose but just used a large binder clip to stop the flow of oil before I get everything in the right position. Packing was thoughtful in that a large zip tie was inserted in the tube to prevent it from kinking during shipping.

Expensive. It works great though.
This thing more than doubles the cost of doing a DIY oil change. However, it worked as advertised! Two things I noticed while using it:1) It REALLY wanted to cross-thread. Took about 5-10 attempts before it threaded properly. Be very careful when attaching this to your filter housing. The threads on this tool look fine so I suspect my plastic housing was the issue.2) The supplied hose is rather long. Unless you're using a lift I'd consider shortening it.

Perfect for the job
I found this tool to be very helpful since the oil filter housing is horizonal. This is not a cheap tool but you are paying for what you get. If you like changing your oil in your VW or Audi then I would definetely consider buying this tool. It only adds a little more time to the job but it avoids making a mess and getting oil all over everything. This tool is well worth the money.

A Quality Product!
I have a 2007 VW Passat 2.0T and this Oil Filter Housing Drain tool allows you to perform your own oil changes without a messy oil spill. The product is well made and is mostly solid brass! You won't be able to wear it out! One concern I had was the hose retaining old oil. Well, I was happy to see that the hose is made out of a rubber that is almost like Teflon in nature. The old oil hardly sticks to it at all! I just hung it above my oil collection resevoir and it pretty much dripped all of the oil out of the hose. Also, since the hose is transluscent you can see if there is any remaining old oil in the hose.Love it!

Its works well.
Its not fancy just some brass and plastic. You do not need fancy to drain your VW oil filer housing you just need it to work. This tool works well. Have always done my own maintenance and now I can do it on the Jetta and GTI.

Works great , Audi A4 07 2.0T
Works great, the tube is long and works out great with a lift or a jack, you can cut it to the size you want and there really isn't much of a mess. You might want to give at a few minutes to drain, and put a sheet down in case two or three drips fall. This tool closes and opens that little plastic vaulve in the plastic filter holder. Make sure to take the oil cap off to make the flow faster, look it up on YouTube and you can see an example of how it works.
