Best stethoscope I ever had and a great deal!
I bought this same model stethoscope in PA school in 1993. I used it until about 2 years ago and some of the hard plastic had chipped away and I replaced the ear pieces and eventually the large rim. Finally the tubing was just too stiff. The original had the pediatric bell and was about $500. Pretty good for 30 years. Bought another brand and it was not as good so I saw this and for $89 it was worth the chance. The style has changed minimally on the bell but just as good. This didn’t come with the pediatric bell, but my old one fits and I don’t need it anyway. Just need it to last 5-10 years. The stethoscope I received is the correct model number advertised here and I am so pleased. Sounds is better than my MDF stethoscope and the soft tips are so good. My sad old one is next to the new one. If I hold it up, my old one is permanently bent - but again that was 30yrs of use. I recommend.

Top quality
I am a hospital based physician. I am very happy with the quality of this equipment. Relatively lightweight compared to other similar scopes. Great value.

Good clinical stethoscope
Good auscultation of lung/heart sounds without breaking the bank. Seems well made and like it will last several years of clinic use.

Good sound quality with problems.
I'm in veterinary medicine and I was hoping to find an alternative to the sea of Littmann stethoscopes that are out there and went with this Welch Allyn HarveyElite and compared it to a Littmann Cardiology IV.First this good. The acoustic quality and sound isolation are very good. I found the HarveyElite ear tips to offer better isolation. This is of particular benefit when in loud environments which I often am. In terms of auscultation the Cardio IV is noticeably louder but a bit more muddled where the HarveyElite seems to offer an overall quieter but clearer sound. This is particularly noticeable when listening to airways so I have to say I personally preferred the HarveyElite here.I also appreciated the fact that the HarveyElite is more modular in that you can swap the adult side disc for a pediatric side and make the entire stethoscope pediatric (open+diaphragm) which is handy for neonates and other small creatures. I was however disappointed that despite being labelled here as a Student model, which is suppose to include the pediatric disc and diaphragm in the box, the model I got was a normal retail version. The distribution network that Welch Allyn has charges a small fortune for these components so you're far far better off seeking a distributor that offers Student models (the model number ends with an S so you would want 5079-125S) if you have interest in the pediatric diaphragm. I also personally like the fact that the warming rings thread on. The Cardio IV rings and diaphragms stretch on and are a pain to remove and break with some regularity. The ear tips also thread on which I've seen people mark as a negative but I dont have an opinion about it. They'd have to unscrew quite a ways before they could actually fall off and be lost. Now the bad and why I returned this Stethoscope (beyond being mislabeled as a Student model). The ear tips themselves are painful. 3M is the manufacturer of Littmann stethoscopes and has done a great job in the comfort department using soft silicone. Welch Allyn, while soft to the touch, are noticeably less pliable in a side to side comparison and they just plain hurt my ears in both small and medium sizes. I could not comfortably wear this stethoscope day in and day out without literally making the inner part of my ear raw with pain. Secondary to this was the tube tensioning adjustment is cumbersome to the point that I wondered if the product I received was defective. I had to effectively pull the ear tubes fully horizontal to get the tension to relax a little. Thirdly I could not get the stethoscope to rest around my neck without the ear tube side trying to twist the lift up due to the bridge effect of the spring so it was awkward to wear. For what its worth the box stated my stethoscope was manufactured/packaged in October of 2022.In short I very much wanted to like this stethoscope but the comfort department fell so far short of the Littmann that I simply couldnt justify it. I was impressed enough with the sound that I may try a Student packaging Harvey DLX (slightly heavier but more modular for pediatric use) but if it has the same problems with the tube tension and ear tip pain I'll simply stick with Littmann.

THE HARVEY DESIGNS ARE THE AUSCULTION MIRACLE YOU'VE HEARD ABOUT.... .
W. PROCTOR HARVEY, MD, WAS A DUKE UNIVERSITY GRADUATE, WHO, AS HE BECAME A MATURE PHYSICIAN,KNEW THAT, WHEN IT CAME TO **AUSCULTATION**, SOMETHING WAS MISSING ... A GREAT STETHOSCOPETHAT GAVE CARDIOLOGISTS WHAT THEY HAD NEVER HAD BEFORE : A TOOL THAT WOULD PROVIDEWHAT WAS NRCESSARY FOR ACUTE LISTENING, FOR THE BEDSIDE CARDIOLOGIST : A STETHOSCOPE WITHMUCH, MUCH BETTER ACOUSTIC SEAL, AND SOUND GATHERING DESIGN THAT WAS DESPERATELY LACKING. WHEN DR. "PROC" HARVEY WAS DONE.... HE HAD A PATENTABLE DESIGN THAT WAS A NEAR MIRACLE. SOUND TRANSMISSION IN HIS NEW DESIGN WAS NOTHING LESS THAN INCREDIBLE.A STETHOSCOPE WITH A CHROME-PLATED, REVOLVING TURRET, WITH CHANGEABLE, SCREW-ONCHESTTPIECES, WITH AN OPTIONAL CORRUGATED DIAPHRAGM, TO LEND AMPLIFICATION, NEEDED FORHEARING INTERNAL SOUNDS, SUCH AS GRADE 1 AND 2 MURNURS, VESSEL AEROPLANING, AND INTESTINALTRACT MOVEMENT, SUPRA-ORBITAL ARTERIAL SOUNDS, CAROTID SOUNDS, ET CETERA. DECADES LATER,THE HARVEY GENIUS HAS OUTLIVED IT'S WONDERFUL CREATOR, BUT PATIENTS WORlD-WIDE ARE STILLBENEFITTING FROM W. PROCTOR HARVEY'S CREATION. YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE A BOARD CERTIFIED CARDIO DOCTOR TO APPRECIATE A HARVEY SCOPE. THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY WORTH THE DOLLARS YOU WILLSPEND TO OWN A HARVEY. THANK YOU.H. E. SAWYER, JR., MD, PhD, MScE,

Don’t buy this stethoscope!
I was told to buy Welch Allen stethoscope by a doctor but this has fallen apart in six months. DO NOT buy this stethoscope! You would be better off using child’s play stethoscope!
