I'm a big fan of erotica set in ancient and classical decadent scenarios, and this is one of the best. The opulent clothes, furnishings and settings, slaves pampering, masters and mistresses being pampered, flirtation, exploitation; this book has the lot, and a raw, agressive energy that keeps it from becoming too plush. The heady atmosphere reeks of sensuality, a cocktail of power-politics, passion and LOTS of the sex (far more than in many 'erotic' stories) and in many guises to please all tastes. Then there's the added frisson of supposedly saintly priests and monks, ripe for the tempting.My only disappointment is the 'pair off, marry and live happily ever after' ending (hence only four stars). Come on, the decadence didn't stop with marriage, they carried on (in all senses)! Someone write a sequel, please!
