NP99sp NewPower99 Battery Replacement Kit with Battery, Video Instructions and Tools for Tomtom Via 1605TM

Torx screwdriver had to be filed down quite a bit as it is too small for the screw (see pictures, i ground off most of the skinny portion of the tip). I ordered a 1605 battery replacement but got a DVD video of 1505 (slight difference from my model vs the video, mine only had 3 screws and not 4). The green tool for taking the case apart works great. Not sure if you could do it without ruining the case without the tool. The battery has the leads at the top and not the side like the original (see pix). Not a killer but took some work to finesse the wires in to place. Also as others has stated the specs are slightly smaller on the replacement battery. Don't think it will affect me as I always leave mine on the charger since the original battery didn't last more than 1 or 2 hours anyways. Be sure to watch the video. If you don't disconnect the ribbon cable you have a chance of bending or breaking it.Initially I couldn't get the new battery to work. I then noticed that the back light was coming on but the GPS was not booting up. I took it apart and reseated the ribbon cable as it looked like it wasn't in all the way (it was like that when I first opened it) and then everything started working. I then opened it back up and reconnected the old battery and the GPS worked. So in my case it looks like the ribbon cable may have come loose. It is what connected the circuit board to the screen. Leaving the new battery in for now. My old battery can be a spare as as the tools will be useful in the future if the battery ever does truly die on me.30 dollars vs a new GPS in the long run is worth the money. Even though it turns out my original battery didn't die I did need the torx screw driver and the little green pry tool to take the GPS apart.

Less powerful battery than original Tomtom Via 1605 =1100mAH vs 1020mAH replacement. Wires coming through the top of the battery rather than the side as the original, wires get smashed when its placed in the Tomtom Via 1605 case. Torx driver that comes with the package is not correct, its too small. Should be a T6 torx bit. Battery is very slow to charge. Will see if it even lasts an hour. NOT worth the price I paid. Will not order from NewPower99 again.

First one arrived 4 days late and after I had ordered a replacement unit. Credit was given no problem. Trying to install the battery and the Torx driver is to small for the screw in my VIA 1605. Waiting for a solution from Newpower99 since I have no clue where to get such a tiny Torx driver.Next day - NewPower offered to send the proper driver, but I filed off the small end of the driver sent, and was able to remove the case screw. All seemed to go well - the unit started up with no problem until I tried to plug the cord into the unit so I could charge it. Somehow I managed to shift the female end and it broke when I tried to ease it back in place. The NewPower rep kindly offered a refund on the battery kit, but I was brought up to own my mistakes so respectfully declined. Advise - Be really careful putting the circuit board back in place!

I only saw one review and the guy said not to buy it because he damaged his GPS by taking it apart. I like my Tom Tom and didn't want to shell out over $200.00 to replace it. I took a chance and bought the kit and it couldn't have been easier. They give you the three tools you need and even include a DVD showing exactly how to replace the battery from start to finish. Saved me at least $165.00.

Could not have been easier. Watched video on-line before ordering, then when kit came, I immediately installed the new battery with no problems at all (except that I was so anxious to see if it was going to work I forgot to put the three screws back in that holds the board in place!) It powered up without them but I took it back apart and replaced the replaced screws and it's working like new! I wondered about the "memory" since my original battery had completely died, but to my pleasant surprise, all my favorites and other settings were still there!

The battery was not configured for my 1605TM. The lead was on the wrong side. I managed to get it in after some adaption. Battery seems good.

GPS replacement battery and DVD instructions along with tool is just absolutely GREAT and EASY to use! Highly recommend! It's like a brand NEW GPS!

but tomtom still wouldn't work :( but no problems with return .. they were very understanding would buy from them again
