Arrived and Thrived!
A lot of people don’t know what a juvenile plant looks like; please don’t let them scare you away from getting this plant. Similarly, they don’t know what shipping stress is either. I’m genuinely glad I tried this seller out, because I received a cute little friend in some pretty neat packaging.I got what was exactly as advertised: a “baby” black coral elephant ear. Expect it to be small, and don’t expect it to be jet black right out of the box. The poor thing has been through shipping, and less sun = less black and more green. Pot her up immediately, give her quality grow lights or really good sunshine, and she WILL turn black and start growing more leaves.I unpacked a perfectly healthy elephant ear child who was a roughly darkish green color due to age and lack of sun, quickly darkening up within three days of delivery and full sun exposure. Please note that my photos are after a month of having this little friend in some good summer sun, and a few drinks of nitrogen rich fertilizer. The leaves become glossier as the plant ages, giving you that classic black coral look. While young, the leaves will be more matte like in my photos; I took them when my little guy was still getting there. The first two original leaves died off after being replaced by new ones, and are not in my photos. Again, this was expected as the plant went through the stress of shipping. For some reason, a lot of people don’t understand this either. LEAVES WILL DIE. AND BE REPLACED. Your plants need love, sunshine, water, and time! Dieback is normal!Overall, I’m really happy I tried this seller, because I literally got what I wanted and paid for. I plan on ordering a black magic too as I ended up really liking the matte look the young black coral leaves gave off, but will probably wait until spring.

sadly disappointed and expected more
out of most of the reviews i have seen , everyone else plants had multiple leaves. i’m upset i paid the amount of money i did for one leaf and it being so tiny. the pictures in the listing are so misleading as it shows a decent size , beautiful plant and that is not what i have received AT ALL.

Beautiful and Difficult
The plant was gorgeous and had two leaves when it arrived. It was packaged in a narrow, long box with a skewer for support and a plastic bag over the plant. Other reviewers are definitely correct in that this is NOT a good beginner plant (elephant ears are relatively stubborn about needing their tropical conditions). Although it arrived healthy, it had a lot of difficulty adjusting once unpacked. I made the mistake of trying to gently wipe the leaves down on the second day and both leaves wilted and died over the course of a week. HOWEVER, a new leaf has already unfurled larger, taller, and darker than the original two. So far it’s thriving in my most humid bathroom under a grow light (watering a teeny bit 2x/week from the bottom) and clamoring toward death if I put it anywhere else.It really is a beautiful plant. The dark leaves are glittery in most light and the foliage moves and produces little dew drops at night provided the proper humidity. Aside from better intuition, the only other thing I could have asked for is a teeeeeeny little bit more information about the specific variety’s needs.Edit: Photos added - first is straight out of the box the day it arrived and second is its current setup 3 weeks later after both original leaves died (already growing a SECOND new leaf)Edit 2: Plant has been here for almost two months. It has three leaves (totally different ones than the ones it had when it arrived). The newest is the biggest by far! Excited to see if this little guy can support more than the three

Not near as big as expected, but I think they're gonna make it.
Honestly for the price, they are super small, but I trimmed the bad ones off and repotted in new soil with perlite and I think they're gonna make it.

Very expensive. Both plants main leaves dead.
I'm to blame for not realizing how tiny and fragile these would be for the price. Both main leaves (each had one with another unfurling) were dead. I read instructions. Cut of dead leaves. Repotted. Fed. Put under a grow light (not close). It's been a week. Baby leaves still fragile. Fingers crossed. I emailed seller and have gotten no response. I also got a frydek with 2 baby leaves. One is transparent. One is okay. Too small and fragile for the price.
