Ragnarok Odyssey ACE - PlayStation 3

I just got the platinum trophy for this game, so hear are my thoughts after finishing.I played this game for 2 weeks straight and logged over 100 hours, and I enjoyed most of the experience. The combat is simplistic, yet fun sense each class has their own skill set. My favorite was sword warrior but I tried out all the other classes and each was fun to play and served their own purpose. The ACE skills really add a lot to the experience and made combat a very enjoyable experience.The only thing I did not like were the halomonas weapons. The ones from the first questline are fine, but it really gets ridiculous in the ACE quests. Basically these are weapons where you fulfill requirements like collecting, killing monster or doing missions in order to increase the stats of the weapons.The ones you get in the ACE questline have absurdly time consuming requirements, some ever taking up to 2-3 hours to complete. They really should have toned those down, but this is a minor complaint.The multiplayer can also get really buggy, I encountered multiplayer glitches a lot and got kicked out of a lot of games. When it did work, it was a very fun experience but it seems everyone in the party needs to have a perfect connection for it not to lag like crazy.The story is nonexistent and sort of gets in the way sometimes, It is very generic and boring and you will lose nothing by skipping it. I wish there was a better story but the combat more than makes up for it.The music is great, especially sense they took the best songs from Ragnarok Online and put them in the game. I LOVE the ragnarok online soundtrack so this made me really happy.Overall it was a fun game, it can get pretty grindy sometimes but that is expected in this genre. Anyone who likes hunting games or Ragnarok Online will find themselves right at home in this game. This was my first hunting game, and I really enjoyed this experience and will definitely go pick up Soul Sacrifice and Toukiden next.

I personally wanted to buy Ragnarok Odyssey, but then I saw this available on Pre-Order.I did my research and it seemed that this is just like an expansion, so I waited and waited even after the 2 month delay.So it finally arrived after about 4 months of wait!The game play is something i enjoy, although it isn't exactly an open world, I love dungeon grinding and boss hunting.The control is a bit awkward though. I guess I'll have to get used to it, but it just feels a bit stiff, not really smooth like other games similar to this.But for the most part, this is something you can enjoy either playing long time in one sitting or from time to time occasionally like waiting in line or sitting in a car, etc.I would write a full review, but I haven't even finished chapter 2 yet. As for chapter 1, it might feel a bit too easy, but you'll have to get used to the controls, so it will be a tutorial rather than chapter 1.I can say that if you are the type of a person who doesn't like reading, the conversation in the game will bore you. A LOT.You don't really have to know them though. If you missed something, you can just talk to them again and they will tell you the key points anyways.As for me though, I love reading these kind of things, whether they are important or not. Sometimes they have humor, sometimes they give you quite useful info as well.one thing I really like about this game is that there are 4 different control set-ups, so you can change it to which ever makes you feel comfortable. the thing is, it's not customize-able like most games... I kinda don't like the aiming keys.

First off this isn't an RPG, It's more of an action game with some minor RPG elements.What was done right is the character creation.Aside from the repetitiveness this game isn't for casual players. Once you get to about half way through the game boss giants are pure cheap shots instant kill with a lot of health. You can grind forever and lot level up to make a boss fight easier. The only way to get stronger is to finish quest in the story line. This locks leave the game in hard core mode that takes the fun out of it real quick when it becomes to hard for a a casual player. There are multiple ways to die.1. The time runs out because you and the pick up NPCS can't do enough damage.2. The giant monsters cheap shot you with some type of bind + weakness and/or combined inst-a-kill super hits. Even with the ability to revive and 5000+ hp the bosses will obliterate players.The characters are mostly under powered and you can't level up the traditional way with exp. Armor choices are basically for ascetics and has no real benefits other then the cards that can be taken off them. The game is all about grinding. I can handle graning hours, but once you get half way through it's clear grinding doesn't work when you can set the game in casual mode. It's just not worth the money to be let down but a severely unbalanced game that becomes to difficult half way through.Some people would say "Try to game better." The issues that make this game ridiculously hard ruin what it could have been if options where available for less hardcore players. To put in simple, if you make a game that is all about grinding at least make it fun enough to be playable for everyone who is willing to invest their real world time so bosses are easy enough for casual players to also enjoy.

29.99 for a Launch Edition that comes with a Soundtrack it is a steal.I have tried Soul Sacrifice, Monster Hunter 3 U and God Eater Burst. Well aware with the monster hunting franchise....It a bit easy and a mindless grind at times.However the graphics, bosses and unique card system make it a interesting experiences. I love the Ragnarok series....played R Online and the PSP Rag tactics game. Also XSEED publishing it makes it a must buy.Surprisingly, it have heard it is better on the Vita than the PS3. The OLED Vita 1000 perfectly complements it's vibrant schemes.

This game actually is fun, although when I got it, the box was squeezed. But, it's okay with the actual game :)
