Stainless Steel?
Product description and the box both say "stainless steel". However, it is plastic with a silver lacquer on top. The older model this new one replaces was actually stainless steel. But the sizes of the cover are a bit different, so I cannot reuse the old cover. I did a dry fit and it does fit to replace the old broken fan, so I guess I'll keep it. Just very disappointed in the description is not the actual item delivered.

unit failed in 3months
I bought two of these Oct 2020. They are installed in my J/22 sailboat. By Jan 2021 one failed and it is not the battery as I just replaced that. I had these for ten years in the 1990s and 2000s installed on my 33 ft sailboat when the lid was actually stainless steel and they were still working after ten years (with new batteries). Now the shell is plastic with silvery covering. You could stand on the old one, not this one ! Not impressed with reliability. Now trying to find the overhaul kit that replaces the guts of it excluding the shell. Very disappointing. When they work they are great.

Dead out of the box
This cane dead out of the box. Instructions say to let it charge in the sun for something like 48 hours which I did. Still won’t turn on after 5 days in the sun. Now I’m underway with a vent in the head that doesn’t work. Will have to now source a replacement battery while out in remote areas. Can’t return as it is already installed. Awful!

Better stuff from China
It works and seems to be sort of heavy duty. I will see how long it lasts. Better quality than the other china stuff being passed around on here.Update: After a year, the battery quit. I replaced it and then noticed the motor was whining. Eventually, it too went bad. I can order one from the manufacturer. As for longevity of this product, I give it a fair or 2.5 out of 5.

I on my third nicro vent over 13 years
Could not just buy a replacement motor as they did in the past for $20. Now you have to purchase a new vent fan $150+.

Good Quality
Installed this last month and appears to be well made. Great installation instructions and both intake and exhaust fan blades (easily changed) I liked the ability to close in rough weather to avoid water entering. Great replacement for boat with older non-working unit.

Great vent. Works as advertised.
Works great even in cloudy Alaska so would buy again. Easy to install and moves a bunch of air below.
