Fantastic addition to the studio
This is an absolutely fantastic device. It certainly excels at traditional reamping but I also use it for playing synthesizers through guitar amps. I always had to be quite careful with levels and impedance matching in sending line/instrument levels into amp heads that are looking only for guitar level inputs. It's certainly doable without it (but be EXTREMELY careful) whereas with this box it makes this routing connection effortless and awesome. I had also considered Radial's other passive reamper, the ProRMP. What I really liked about this JCR model was that it had a real level control knob. The immediate accessibility of this volume knob has really proven to be incredibly useful. What has also proven invaluable on this box (and really makes it worth the price of admission along with the aforementioned level knob) is the three position filter control. This helps dial in very quickly the type of tone you looking to get out of your amp. With the ease of the level knob and these filters you can comfortably (and safely!) push the tubes in your amp with synths tones. This was something I was very careful about NOT doing before using this device. The JCR has also opened up the possibility of using guitar pedals on my synths with guitar levels that the pedals are looking for. Finally, while I have not directly compared the sound imparted by the transformers of this model and the ProRMP, I am very happy with what comes out of this box. The Radial site says the transformer in this unit is "better" than the one used in the ProRMP. Being Radial, none of their stuff lacks in build or sonic quality in anyway. I have their JD6 (with Jensens) and a JDI stereo (also with Jensens)... Phenomenal quality in all of them. Ridding my studio of phase and ground loop issues and being able to level and impedance match with each device for creative routing has been a real sonic blessing. For my reamping chain, I generally use a combination or mix of Rupert Neve DIs, REDDI DIs or Phoenix Audio Nice DI (then preamp or compressor of choice) for both guitar and bass going in to my DAW. On the way out I send the signal through these boxes and then a Lehle splitter to feed both a combination of Blackstar, Orange or EVH heads. Since my original review, I have purchased a second JCR. This allows stereo guitar reamping, stereo synths through guitar amps, or simultaneously reamping a rhythm and lead guitar through different amps to adjust both together for complimentary tones for the mix. Great stuff to have in the laboratory...

You get what you pay for
Compared this to the ProRMP and this wins by a mile. If you do reamping this is the box to get. Not happy the box looked like it was dragged through the warehouse and stepped on.

Takes the buzz/hum and problems out of re-amping
I bought this box so I can reamp my high gain Mesa/Boogie Mark V. I had previously remaped by going directly out of my recording interface (UAD Apollo) directly into the amp. However this created a lot of hum, and worse, when i turned the amp up a high pitched squeal was created. Essentially making reamping impossible. The Radial JCR does exactly what I wanted to: signal goes from the interface into the Reamp then into the amp. Sound totally clean, as if it were coming from the guitar.Pro Tip: Take care when you record your clean guitar tracks. Even though you might not be able to tell, by recording in close proximity to your recording setup/computer, you might be picking up hum that WILL come across (since that's how its recorded) when you reamp. A good way to check this is to monitor your guitar tracks through a amp emulation plugin and turn the gain up. If there's lots of hum/feedback, that you'll need to change your position or add a noise gate. If you only making low gain recordings, its less of an issue.

Great sound quality, low noise, solid product.
I'm using this along with Radial's Pro DI passive reamp box, and I send the signal out to a Mesa Mark V for reamping. I send my clean DI out from my DAW, via my interface, to this and out to the amp and the signal is spot on when compared A/B with the actual "real" signal generated by my guitars.I live in a noisy (electrical/RF) environment, so having the option to use the built in hi-pass is definitely a nice touch, and the whole chassis is built like a tank and well put together. One improvement on this would be some kind of metering/hashmarking on the level knob. At the maximum level output, it does feel like it's adding a tiny boost to the signal - not a big deal, but some indication of unity gain would have been nice. The effect is extremely minimal though (and actually sounds better for high gain tones), so it's nothing I'd call a "complaint".Definitely a solid product, would recommend it.

Magical Little Box
Does what it is supposed to do without noise and with a ton of frequency response. You'll never record tracks without it again.
