The MASSIVE gravity well from my trash can pulled my old pencil iron from my grip...
...and swallowed it, like a black hole...I'm a DIY'er and 3rd-Gen woodworker, and I love to fiddle with electronics and wiring. I've always used a junky little one-temperature-melts-all pencil iron and a wet paper towel for all my soldering needs. This XTronic Soldering Station is a BIG step up' for me. This is a very nice setup, and i believe the quality of my work will increase drastically. I sent my old pencil iron to the landfill, after the heating element apparently failed... UPDATE: Coexisting with this soldering station is a Tacklife heatgun, and a 300pc box of TiConn crimp/shrink/adhesive connectors...My work HAS improved greatly, and they will improve yours, as well...UPDATE: I wrote the above review 3 years ago, and forgot to press the SUBMIT button... So, here it is, 3 years later... And this soldering station is still going strong... It works like a champ, with no complaints...Advice #1: Get an external container of ACTUAL flux paste, because the rosin core inside the solder is not enough for good clean connections... Your work will improve drastically... NO FLUX = NO GOOD...Advice #2: The threaded ring nut that holds the tip onto the iron should be checked before each use... The heating and cooling will tend to loosen the ring nut...GOOD DAY...

Great value
I bought this to wire together some LED strip lighting under some shelves and soffits. I had an old, cheap solderimg iron that wasn't doing the trick. Since I plan to use more strip lighting in my kitchen and possibly as holiday lighting outdoors, I decided to invest in a good soldering iron and I'm glad I went with this. It's very helpful to be able to select the temperature I want, as some of my soldering was very small 22AWG and other times I needed to solder my 14AWG power injection wires. This worked flawlessly for my limited use. I don't know how long it would last if you were making hundreds of solder joints on a daily basis but it seems quality made and I wouldn't hesitate to use it for such a case.

So far - so good
I was unsure when I decided to purchase this unit. It has turned out to be exactly as described. I put it to work the day it arrived and have used it multiple times since on large and small projects. It heats quickly and is ready to begin work within a minute or two. The smaller tips do well in tight spaces. Remember that the small tip will cool quickly on larger objects. The tip recovers quickly once it is removed from a large surface - then its ready to go again - within seconds.I was pleased to notice that the cord to the power unit is quite flexible (more so than my old unit). The tips are easy to change. The solder sucker tube also works well and is easy to clean. Overall, I am satisfied with this purchase.

Great iron, great value
This soldering iron works great and feels good in the hand, I like the quality knob control for temperature. Very simple and straightforward design, as it should be. I would like to see a micro-soldering pencil be made available for this unit with 0.1mm tips. Heats up fast, holds temperature well. Need to correct a flaw in design of the brass cleaning sponge cannister, the cap is very difficult to take off due to bottom lip of iron holder being too low/at improper angle. Overall an excellent value, I purchased my station last year for about $75.00.

Reliable, great customer service
This is my second X-Tronic workstation, bought as a spare unit. I've used an older model for years (3040 XR3) until I broke the bakelite junction between the tip and the handle. Not a fault of the unit, it turns out I did several things wrong, such as changing tips when the unit was still warm, tightening the bakelite when hot, and more. But having done that I contacted X-Tronic, had a reply within hours, and the part plus spares are now on their way, and got tips on the care and feeding of these units. Fast friendly service and the soldering stations are top notch too. It is interesting that I used the same temperature setting as with the first unit and it worked the same way, so they are consistent. Using a few different solders I like the temperature setting as opposed to a dial with a few lines.

Not getting all the crying??
I love my new 4010xp 2 station. From the old analog station it replaces it's night and day. The price for value is excellent too. Not getting all the crying on the reviews: 1. The lid for the brass sponge - I noticed it was a snug fit first use. Then realized I preferred physically removing it rather than it being able to just come off accidently and getting lost or damaged. Easy to remove, but not won't pop off either. To each his own.2. The rosin in the bottom of the can being hard - It's not supposed to be soft. It's for prepping your hot iron, and flows instantly. Do it right and get some regular rosin to prep the joint you're working on, yea?I love mine so much I called the company to order replacement element so I had a spare, and to order their 4 in one station. They picked up on the second ring... Just how often do you see that?I'm impressed all the way around, and that's not easy to do with me. Thanks XTronic!!

Heats up quickly and turns off if you don’t use it for a while.
My old X-tronic iron died after 20years of use. This one heats up really fast and if one stops using it, it goes into standby. The iron is lightweight and the tip-cleaning system works well.Would buy again.
