A Fantastic Guide for All Students
I purchased this book for my Kindle. It was free, but I would have paid money for it. Honestly, it is a fantastic book for any student although it is geared for late high school and college aged students. The great thing about this book is that it is so comprehensive. It takes the same old study tips you have heard before and gives them new life, explaining why they work and how to implement them. It adds new (well new to me) concepts on preparing for class, working through reading assignments, taking notes (both lecture and from readings), preparing for tests of all varieties, and writing papers. It also gives many suggestions on how to approach teachers and not only introduce yourself but get the help you need. In addition, it provides many approaches to each task making it useable for all kinds of students and settings.I would recommend this to anyone who is struggling, needs help in class, help scheduling their time, new college students, or someone who just wants to brush up on skills. Finally, it was a pretty quick read, I read it in a few days time and the way in which it is written also makes it a fast read.

Everything Guide: Highly Recommended
A terrific guide, essentially a semester long study skills course presented in one coherent package. I especially like the author's introductory note that "success is being the best student you in particular can be," even or especially if that means a B. I see students at all levels benefiting from the book. The author, clearly passionate about her subject matter, provides strategic advice about how to create productive relationships with teachers, manage time, read a text and take notes, test preparation and test taking skills, writing essays from start to finish (including research), and advice about clubs and volunteering and on-line learning. I found this to be a smart, all in one book that will improve students' abilities and performance. Having taught and advised for a lot of years, I highly recommend.

Best for High School Students
I purchased this book to help me create a curriculum for a middle school study skills course I will be teaching in the fall. There are a few chapters (note-taking, study schedules, etc.) I can adapt for the younger grades.I'll still continue to look for an age appropriate book for my grade 6 classes.

Learning to read and study
Without very good study skills, a student runs the risk of becoming academic toast. A recurring theme of the book is how critical paying attention, active thinking, reflection and so on are fundamental to learning. This book provides a good review of learning skills and never claims a particular learning style or strategy is primary. Hence, there is no concern about using a specific system and studying alone or in a group.

Study skills are OK, nothing special
I was hoping for something a bit more encompassing from the book. Often with the "Everything" series I have found great information that keeps me coming back to get a better grasp on things. No so with this book. I was hoping it would be the book I could get my High School son to read to better his overall study habits, but it's not. I'll have to keep looking.

Great Resource
Great skills to teach students. Skills they can use to be successful in school, college, preparing for tests like the ACT, SAT, ASVAB, etc. And even skills that they can use in the work force to complete projects and such. Great resource to use with high school students.

Required for class
This is for my son. I don’t know if he used it during class. It was recommended by his teacher

This book has a lot of great advice, but not all of it was tuned ...
I used this book to tutor two boys in study skills over the summer. This book has a lot of great advice, but not all of it was tuned to a high school setting like it says it should be. It still has a lot of great resources in it.
