Ohne lang herumzureden - die Einrichtung in einem englischen Menü ist sehr einfach durchführbar. WPA2 aktiviert, Schlüssel eingegeben, IP-Adresse eingestellt, gespeichert, fertig.Der Accesspoint sollte bei mir den WLAN-Teil eines alten 54MBit-DSL-Routers ersetzen, der dazu auch noch ungünstig im Keller steht.Dazu sollte der Accesspoint eine feste IP erhalten, damit ich ihn leicht manuell nachkonfigurieren kann.Vorgehensweise:- altes WLAN im Router abschalten- IP-Bereich feststellen, den der Router den angeschlossenen Geräten automatisch zuteilt (100-200)- IP-Adresse des Routers feststellen (192.168.2.1)- Feststellen, wie der Accesspoint angesprochen wird (er ist voreingestellt auf 192.168.2.1, steht unten auf dem Gerät, also dummerweise genau wie mein Router)- Accesspoint direkt über Netzwerkkabel mit einem PC verbinden (den PC nicht am normalen Netzwerk anschließen!)- PC manuell auf 192.168.2.50 einstellen (halt eine andere IP als der Accesspoint, also 3-254, egal)- Kurz warten- IP-Adresse des Accesspoints 192.168.2.1 in den Browser eingeben, Zugangsbild des Accesspoints erscheint- Benutzername und Zugangspasswort des Routers eingeben (steht unten auf Gerät)- WPA2 aktivieren, WLAN-Kennwort vergeben, speichern- IP-Adresse des Accesspoints ändern auf 192.168.2.2, speichern- Warten, bis Accesspoint neu gestartet ist, dann abstecken- Accesspoint ans Netzwerk anstecken- Am PC, der für die Konfiguration benutzt wurde, wieder DHCP einstellen- Den PC, der für die Konfiguration benutzt wurde, wieder ans normale Netzwerk anstecken- Fertig.Ergebnis: WLAN steht nun zur Verfügung, der Accesspoint ist fest auf 192.168.2.2 eingestellt, der Router verteilt freie IPs über den Accesspoint im Bereich von 100-200 (und natürlich auch an die PCs, die am Netzwerk per Kabel angeschlossen sind).Reichweite einwandfrei, Notebook/iPad läuft in der gesamten Wohnung (weil der Accesspoint etwa in der Mitte des Hauses platziert wurde).Vorher half nicht mal ein Repeater.

After having wireless signal interference issues, I decided I needed a wireless range extender to regain the performance of my home network. The technical specs of this product seemed to match what I wanted and fast as lightning, it arrived.The unboxing was pretty standard - though I was amazed at just how small this device really is. There was the usual plethora of instructions in every language under the sun, the same old "do not dip this product in the bathtub" spiel we've all grown accustomed to.Now, at this point I should mention that I consider myself to be at an advanced level of technological experience. Off I went to set this product up... except, it didn't go too smoothly. "That's ok", I thought, "it may just be me". Off I went to check the instructions, tail between my legs. Unfortunately they were not of much help and detailed only the very most basic level of product setup. In the same sense, the Edimax website was also of no real use.One and a half hours later, I had completed what should have been a two minute setup job. I came away from this experience triumphant, but disappointed in Edimax. This product, aimed at Joe Everyman, is just too complex to setup for the average person and I am convinced that anyone with lesser technical knowledge than perhaps myself and other reviewers on this website would not have been able to get the product working at all. With a web interface that looks like it could have been designed in the early 80's, this product is just not consumer friendly.Once the product is set up correctly, it works a charm! I was wary of a device such as this adding some latency to my network. That was simply not the case - the signal is very strong and very stable. Currently I have had this device plugged in and running for well over 15 days without a single hiccup. During this time, the product has kept very cool and is only very slightly warm to the touch.5/5 for the product hardware and stability.1/5 for the product firmware/web interface/design.1/5 for the setup.Overall, this product needs significant work done to it in the form of firmware upgrades to improve the setup process and web interface. However, the hardware it is built on is absolutely rock solid and for that reason alone this product has won me over despite its numerous flaws.

This access point or repeater can also be used as a wireless print server. My rather expensive($270) HP ew2500 print server died a slow agonizing death. This device set up easily as a wireless print server and has a strong wireless signal/reception. I had purchased one of these two years ago to be used as a repeater for my home wireless system. It has worked reliably ever since being set up. My only reservation is that the set up software does not include Win 7, but I still have a Win XP available. I did not try using the set up wizard with Win 7.

Leute die einen AccessPoint(AP)oder Universal Repaeter suchen,tun dies meist um den speziellen Anforderungen an die vorhandenenlokalen Gegebenheiten oder technischen Geraete, gerecht zu werden.Ich habe mir den AP bestellt um eine schnelle Anbindung der WLan-Clientsper Vlan (virtuelles Lan) und Radius-Server Authentifizierung zu ermoeglichen.Ich wollte das Aufsetzen eines externen Radius-Servers elegant umgehen.Die Web-Oberflaeche ist in Englisch, uebersichtlich und einfach gehalten.Wichtig: Erst ein Firmware Update ermoeglichte die Konfiguration von mir geforderter Features.Hier war auf der deutschen Seite des Herstellers nur eine aeltere Version,auf der "edimax.eu"-Seite bereits eine neuere Firmware.Der telefonische Kontakt mit der Hotline war vorbildlich und informativ.Einer der Wenigen, die zugeben, nicht "Alles" zu wissen und sich aber umdas Problem kuemmern.Erst mal das, was nicht vollstaendig funktioniert:--------------------------------------------------- Firmware Update notwendig- "eingebauter" Radius-Server funktioniert nur ohne Zertifikate oder MAC-Adress-Reservierung. (Nur per Username oder IP, was bei DHCP wohl wenig Sinn macht.)- Radius Server geht nur mit 1. SSID, NICHT mit ESSID (MultiSSID) (steht auch im Handbuch, was aber vor dem Kauf niemand so genau liest)- max.4 Vlan, wobei das 1.Vlan untagged an den Switch angebunden ist die restlichen 3 tagged wenn gewuenscht.- MAC Filter funktioniert auch nur auf dem 1.Vlan, auf den Restlichen NICHT!- keine Log-Funktion zur Datenauswertung (evtl. Fehlersuche)Jetzt die positiven Eigenschaften :------------------------------------ Reichweite ist gut, mit besseren Antennen sogar ausgezeichnet.- bei Aenderungen in der Programmierung, kann diese uebernommen werden OHNE das Geraet neu zu starten und somit koennen erst alle Aenderungen gemacht werden und dann der Neustart. Finde ich persoenlich gelungen geloest.- gute und erreichbare Hotline ohne teure Gebuehren.- sehr gutes Preis/Leistungsverhaeltnis- macht was es sollBei uns sind im Augenblick bis zu 10 WLan-Clients aktiv am AP am werkeln.(Notebook, TV mit WLan, Squeezebox, Smartphone mit/ohne Android, IPad)Der AP ist an einem managebaren Gigabit-Switch angeschlossen.Die VLans werden per Firewall separiert.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Unsere Konstellation:->DSL-Modem -> Gigabit-Router (Mikrotik RB750GL) !!! Hammerteil !!! -> Gigabit-Switch Netgear GS716T (sehr gutes Preis/Leistungsverhaeltnis) -> AP Edimax EW-7416APN (sehr gutes Preis/Leistungsverhaeltnis)Die Konfigurationsmoeglichkeiten sind gigantisch.Der Konfigurationsaufwand ist hoch, verglichen mit einer "All-in-One"-Loesung.Fundiertes Wissen ist empfehlenswert ;o)HD-TV streamen mit mehren Instanzen gleichzeitig moeglich.Gesamtkosten ca. 230 EuroNachtrag:Nach einem Update auf eine neuere Firmware funktioniert der MAC-Filternun auch auf ALLEN VLans.(Stand Januar 2013)Das Geraet laeuft sehr stabil und in den 9 Monaten Nutzung hat er sich nur 1 Mal "aufgehangen".Lediglich eine Log-Datei vermisse ich manchmal...

I bought this as an add-on to my Sky router which is only wireless G and very limited in range. Set up was quick and simple. As others have mentioned the key is to download the pdf Quick Set-up Guide from the Edimax site. Follow this and you will be fine. I wanted to use this as an Access Point connected directly to my Sky router in order to replace its slow and wimpy wireless G performance.The basic steps were:-1. Connect the Access Point directly to your PC with an Ethernet cable;2. Edit your tcp/ip properties as described in the quick set-up guide;3. Then using your web browser log into the router on 192.168.2.1 as described;4. Supply user name "admin" and password "1234";5. This gets you into the Access Point Set Up page;6. Assign it with a compatible ip address in the range supported by your router - you will need to check your router for this;7. Then set up the security passphrase for your WPA or WEP settings;8. That's the set up done. Power down the Access Point and unplug it from your PC;9. Then plug it into a spare port on the Router using the same Ethernet cable and power it up;10. From then on you can see it as a Wireless Access Point and you can connect wirelessly using the passphrase you set up earlier;10 to 15 minutes to set up overall. I also used a tool called inSSIDer to do a wireless survey and set the Access Point to a channel that was clear and did not have any neighbouring Wireless units treading on it. This improves performance.I also logged into my Sky Router and turned off its own wireless transmitter because the Edimax Access Point can be seen all over the house loud and clear.So before I had a weak Wireless G Wireless Router and now I effectively have a strong Wireless N one - cool.I used to run a wireless G repeater which was always dropping the connection and also ran very hot. The Edimax has functioned flawlessly so far and runs very cool which is an important factor for the longevity of the electronics inside the box!I only gave this product 4 stars because the wireless transmission LED flashes even when data is not being transmitted - you can tell what's going on because the wireless LED is flashing on the Edimax but the corresponding wired port LED (which the Edimax is connected to) is not flashing. A very minor niggle, but a glitch nonetheless. Other than that, a really good piece of kit for the price.
