Great knife for the money!!!
I am a professional cook and I use this knife every shift at work and I love it. It was scary sharp when I first got it and has held an edge very well with proper care and maintainance. It is also easy to restore the edge back to a very sharp status when using the proper technique and equipment. It is very light and maneuverable and I would highly recommend it. All my fellow cooks admire it and always ask to borrow it; I would highly recommend this as great starter knife or a workhorse for everyday work. It is lighter than German knives, so in this instance it is not so much geared for hacking through bones or other things like that, but it is great for fine knife work and can go pretty heavy when needed.

Great Quality
I bought this as a gift for someone. I own and like Mac knives for their quality and maintenance. This knife was purchased for cutting large items like rib roasts, turkey breasts, and any meat or fish that requires a long cutting stroke. The blade is strong and resists bending and flexing. Although not the best in keeping its edge, it does sharpen well. My recommendaton is take this knife, for that matter all your knives, to a professional sharpener and have edges re-worked professionally. If you are a do it yourself type, I hope you are using a consistent and excellent sharpening system like Spydex. The factory out of the box edge is good, but not the greatest. Afterall, the manufacture is trying to get the product out to retail quickly. Back to the review, this Mac knife needs a professtionally sharp edge put on it. Once done, it will amaze you how sharp this knife will be. It has good balance, but understand that this is a very solid blade and it is on the heavy side. It doesn't flex sideways much, very solid. I do not recommend this knife to chop things, use a butcher knife for that. Great knife.

Great knife - quality control issues
The design of this knife is fantastic. It feels great in my hand, it's light, but still feels solid. Well balanced, and is really nice to use, and absolute workhorse that I'm very happy to have, except for one thing. The factory edge was incredibly sharp, but has a significant glint in the edge. Enough that denser foods like carrot and potatoes will kind of bounce off of it. Being decent with a whetstone, I was able to get it mostly out, but it's still noticable. I'll have to get it to a professional sharpener to remove completely. I'm not super happy to spend a good amount of money on a knife that requires I go spend more money to remove defects it came with. This would have been 5 stars without question if it arrived undamaged.

Know what your buying.
I am a chef and work with this knife daily it is a great product and holds it's edge well. Sharpening is quick and easy however be warned the knife rusted VERY easily this knife must be hand dried AND oil after every use and wash.

Wonderful Knife, wonderful series
A wonderful knife. Lighter and thinner than most 10" chef's knives. Very sharp, very easily maintained edge. A great tool for a real cook. Much better than my Miyabi chef's knife and better than my Global chef's knife. Consider that they get $190.00 for the Miyabi and $140.00 for the Global. The MAC chef's series is a perfect fit. Extremely sharp, durable knives.

If you want the best... This is it!
This knife is so sharp.... after I washed it, for the first time, I looked in the sink and found thin slices of the blue sponge I'd used to carefully wipe the blade. MAC knives have a reputation for being the best when it comes to sharpness, maintence, and feel. My first MAC knife was given to me as a wedding present over 40 years ago. I still use it almost daily. In those 40 years the only maintenance has been to sharpen it on the backside of a dinner plate. Yes, they cost more... They are worth it!

Have one in your kitchen
Incredibly sharp yet easy to control. With so much useable blade surface, it makes chopping or dicing a breeze.
