My go to travel guides
These are the only travel guides I use now. The layout of the books is perfect. So easy to use. How to see things by foot.

Good guide, goes beyond standard sites
Lots of great ideas in here, good guidance for areas you might otherwise stumble through without seeing some of the more interesting aspects of the city. Using this for an upcoming visit and getting some valuable info.

Great trip planner!
Great for understanding where the attractions are and great for trip planning. This is one of my two favorite guides to NYC. It is great for getting to know the neighborhoods and where the attractions are. It is less specific about which streets to take, which is fine for people who don’t want to pull out a map at every street corner. It gives a “big picture “ view and assumes that you will spend more time visiting attractions than walking for its own sake.

Not enough info for me
If you want something BASIC for your first trip to NYC this is for you. The walks in this book are a tad on the long side, if you ask me. There is very little information "inside info" or history of the city. This book keeps it simple.Frankly, it was too simple for me. I went to the bookstore and bought Lonely Planet's Pocket New York City. Much more interesting. Has walks, sidebars with interesting info, and a pullout map. This guidebook will be staying home.
