its fine but
I got the SS304 version of this fitting, which is fine for my application but could be a deal breaker for some. The package said it was brass but it wasn't so obviously someone got both and returned one in the wrong bag or something like that.

Bigger than the original hole… but that’s an easy fix.
Far, FAR sturdier than the little plastic nub they replaced, this little pass-through will probably outlast the barrels I installed them in. Getting them into the barrels was a little fiddly (Yes, I got my dumb 6’ tall, broad shouldered butt stuck in a rain barrel and couldn’t get out for five minutes. No, there’s no video of that, thank goodness. I think I got away with no one noticing.) but once I got them in they’re exactly what the doctor ordered. Two installation notes:- they are bigger than the standard pre-drilled hole in the rain barrel. I had to widen it.- if you need to adjust the alignment of the tank fitting after you’ve tightened it down, you may need to loosen it first to preserve the washer. I connected a y-splitter to the outside, and needed to rotate it in order to get the orientation I wanted; twisting it without loosening it first deformed the washer and broke the seal. It worked fine after reinstalling.

Great product
This is an extra good product. I chose the metal version of this product because the interior diameter is larger than that of its plastic versions out there. The actual outside diameter of the nipple was 1-1/32". Because I wanted a near snug fit, I drilled a 1" hole with a paddle bit, and then filed the rest until I could slide the nipple in without any resistance. I only had to file 1/64" of the material all around the hole (1-1/32" nipple - 1" hole) / 2 = 1/64 material to file all around hole. Only took me a minute or two with a good small metal file (not to be confused with jewler's file). The rubber "O" ring gasket sets so close to the out side diameter of the nipple, that I did not want to risk having the gasket riding the edge of the hole. I like my gaskets setting on a flat surface, for maximum sealing area. The directions say you can drill a 1-1/16" to 1-1/8" hole, but I wouldn't go any larger than a 1-1/16" hole.

A product that you can love!
Works like a charm, well built, no fuss.I *strongly* suggest that you buy this one: go brass, pay the extra few cents and don't buy the cheap plastic ones. Your wisdom will be rewarded!Note: This is not a lead free product, it's OK for irrigation but it should not be used for drinking water. The inside (ID) is bigger than it looks on the picture, and it's a good thing. There is more flow ;-) I have 3 barrels in line and I was a bit worried about the flow between them when there is a downpour. The OD of the tread is 26.3 mm / 1.03" , so you can use a 1" spade and finish with a file. Recommended is 1 1/8"The only thing I did differently was instead of dropping the the bulkhead into the barrel and then go trying fishing it, I used a bit of irrigation polytubing : It allows to make the whole process faster. The ID of the bulkhead fits perfectly, and you just bring the bulkhead directly to the hole. see picture.

Silver colored, not brass color
Very heavy and well made fitting, perfect for the bottom of a 20-gallon poly barrel (I use a 12vdc actuated valve).

Does one job, and does it well
I had a similar unit fail, and lost all the water in my rain barrels. I replaced it with this, and so far, so good. Install is easy, and it appears to be performing well, without leaking. Time will tell how well holds up. Good that it claims to be lead free.

Leak free fitting on my water tank
I have one of these on a plastic water tank under a camp trailer. It was easy to install and has not leaked at all since then. The threads are machined properly and the hose fitting has had no leaks as well. I will update in the future if there is an issue.***I rely on people's reviews when making my own purchases on Amazon. Used for rainbarrel overflow
I bought the RAINPAL BBF020 Lead Free Compliant Brass Bulkhead Tank Fitting to attach at the overflow of my rain barrel. I didn't want to enlarge the opening on my barrel, so I twisted the bulkhead connector to get it in. This was a bit difficult. Shaving or scraping the hole in the barrel would worked better. Since the connector connects to the garden hose, I'll also be using it to fill the barrel as it sits outside of the greenhouse.
