Bought two of these for my grandchildren. We got everything out and started working on them, the wooden chisel and hammer are pretty much useless even when we got part of it wet it still needed something stronger to break through the plaster and it got messy when it's wet. My grandson is 9 yrs old and has done bunches of these gem hunts and he was having trouble getting them to break open. He finally gave up and went and got a real hammer. Our other disappointment was we only got 12 gems in one and 11 in the other. The white crystal in both kits were broken in half. This is from the Amazon description "The Large dig Volcano with 15 types of gems buried inside, chisel, mallet, brush, magnifying glass, gorgeous learning & instruction guide, and small sachet to store all the gems. This Premium Crystal and Gemstone Science Dig Kit has it all." We did not get a magnifying glass or the small sachet to keep your gems in.

There is no way that this is made for eight year olds. My seventeen year old son and I took about 1 and a half hours to get these rocks. That being said, it was fun! But probably better for older or more experienced rock hounds.Also— use a LOT of water and be ready to ruin a few cooking utensils because those wood tools will not do the job.

I was really excited about this and I ended up getting 13 gems was kinda sad because it wasn’t the amount advertised and I went through all the broken clay to see if maybe it was in there but it wasn’t.

I have bought 2 of these now my son loves them. The look of joy and amazement every time he finds another stone, he stops and comes over to show me and tell me how pretty it is. And there is quite a few different stone in there. And a great price!

This was a fun activity for my son. He’s really interested in digging and playing with rocks. We used the tools provided in the kit to dig all the hidden gems out. The booklet that it came with was very educational and explained more about volcanoes and the gems that we found. It was a great value activity.

Disliked receiving a product that had been previously opened then re-taped multiple times.

This activity is very fun!!! A bit hard for my 8yr olds but takes a lot of his and her time off arguing. 🤭🤣 Gets a lot of their curiosity out. It is a very messy activity though but fun!

Kids love it . They spent a lot of time on it to get all the gemstones out. Very good quality wood tools we will keep them for next project .
