It’s a crisp biography of Kalpana Chawla, first female Indian astronaut who escaped the gravity twice. But the gravity pulled her back to earth the first time, the second time, gravity could not bring her back, probably Kalpana chose to stay close with the heavenly bodies. Yes, like many great achievers, Kalpana had a brief stay in this mortal world. In this brief period, she has etched her existence in golden letters. Naturally what’s inside will be seen outside, because what people saw in Kalpana was her grit, determination, persistence, patience, longing for knowledge, compassion and many such noble traits that makes a person great. These qualities gained value as she lived her beliefs for people to see. Many incidents narrated by the author and from the words of her friends and others attests for this. Of the many, one factor that could be attributed to her success was that as much as she enjoyed her achievements, equally she loved the path in which she travelled, so probably there was never a moment she did not enjoy her life, or what she was doing and that in itself would have served as a fuel for her journey and aspirations. The other factor for her success could be while she had unwavering focus on what she wanted, she was realistic in focussing in doing the next immediate step that would take her to where she wanted. As it is a brief overview of her biography, the author could not bring in detail her struggles and success as she underwent them. I would look for more a detailed biography to read. But this book does justice in introducing Kalpana to all in a way she deserves.

I liked the book.This book has only 94 pages but the information it contains about Kalpana Chawla is good.The book talks about her childhood, her journey from Kernal in Haryana(India) to U.S.A to become an Astronaut.I also got to know that the original PEC(Punjab Engineering college) is in Pakistan through this book.After partition, the college was relocated to Roorke and named as East Punjab college of Engineering.Now the present location of the college is in Chandigarh. The book also tells about the life of an Astronaut on the space shuttle.The book tells that the core philosophy of Kalpana Chawla was Hard work and Perseverance.So if you want to .achieve your goals in life follow these two traits of Kalpana Chawla.And to know more about her go ahead and read this book.
