I had been looking for a tool, in this case a drawknife, for specific use in making canes; a hobby of mine for a number of years now. I was also looking for a draw knife that did not require a mortgage on my home or requiring me to sell my first born into bondage. When I ordered this knife I had some trepidations - primarily due to the relative low cost. Hey, I did not want to spend all that much, but on the other hand I did not want a hunk of junk on my hands - goodness knows I have enough problems making my canes and I have a barn and storage sheds filled with enough junk as it is.Anyway, I am delighted with this product and it fits my specific needs perfectly. I work with sticks. These sticks are very seldom over two or three inches in diameter. I primarily work with four kinds of wood; hickory, oak, sassafras and walnut - depending upon what sort of cane I am building. I use walnut some, a bit of cherry and upon rare, rare occasions, cedar. I needed this took to remove bark, knots and humps and bumps from limbs and twigs. The wood stock I use has always been cured for at least two years. Again, this tool is perfect for that job.The blade is only five inches wide but the flared handles give my hands plenty of room thereby avoiding knuckle scrapes. The handles are made of very light wood, which is the only reservation I have about this tool, but I suppose time will tell in that area. The tips of the handles come to a flared sort of ending so your hand dose not slip off very easily. The tool is light but not too light. The blade is bowed...again, another feature I was looking for.The blade of this particular drawknife is just a bit flexible which is a feature I was specifically looking for. My work is more art or craft like that would be required in heavy duty building and the flexible blade allows me to make cuts and maneuver the blade quite well.Now buyer take warning! This is an extremely sharp tool! I was actually amazed and extremely grateful when I opened the package and found it had a nice sturdy leather holster. I have used this tool on all the woods mentioned above and I average out about two hours of steady work before the blade needs to be touched up a bit on the stone. This of course depends upon the hardness of the wood I am working on at any given moment. Do be careful though when using this knife - a slight slip could cause you to loose quite a chunk of your body real fast!After use I always clean the blade well and apply a thin coat of oil which in turn, over time, has oiled the leather sheath and I have had no problems with rusting - a possibility I think quite likely if this tool were not maintained correctly.The sharpening is quite easy. I use a stone and light oil and the blades stays almost razor shape with little hassle.If I were doing heavy duty work on larger stock I would want a larger and heavier drawknife but for the purpose I am using it for it is perfect.I might also not that this thing is made in the United States...this is comforting. Truth be told I have had rather poor luck with many of the tools I have purchased that were made in China and I try my best to avoid them. It should also be noted that the company that is offering this knife here on Amazon was quite efficient and the shipping was extremely fast.I am completely happy with this drawknife!Don BlankenshipThe Ozarks

First impression: Sharp out of the box and ergonomic. I am doubtful about handle construction but I can say more until I work with the tool longer. It is smaller than I thought too.

I was looking for a bark removal draw knife; this one is perhaps better suited for the wood shop. I have used it on two diameter inch red cedar logs and feel maxed out at that diameter (a larger log will have me bashing my thumbs and knuckles against the log). It arrived sharp (mirror finish) and easily cut through knots. Cuts are clean and leave a beautiful finish - better than any sanding. The steel quality seems quite good; it holds its edge for a few hours (even through some abusive strokes). The curved blade allows me extra finesse than a straight blade. I prefer USA made over what comes from China, which is almost always inferior. Handles seem secure (glued not bolted). The way they flare out and are shaped assures a solid grip even on hot, sweaty days; however, they are small. Overall this is a great product and I am pleased. I will be shopping for a larger draw knife for larger logs; I'll keep this one for more delicate jobs.

Stick making,small but sturdy does a nice job of cleaning up barked limbs, holds its sharpness. Would recommend

I have a lot of woodworking edge tools including some "big name" planes and this is the first one I've ever purchased that didn't need any sharpening at all. It was extremely sharp right out of the box. The included leather sheath does a good job of protecting the blade (and your fingers) when not in use. The overall size and the really comfortable handle angle make it easy to control when removing either a lot of wood or just a little. Like any drawknife using it bevel down allows even finer shaving and control after the bulk of wood has been removed. This is a very good tool at a good price.

This drawknife is a joke. I bought this to carve hunting bows from osage orange and other hardwoods. I started working on a stave and literally within a minute the wood had chipped part of the blade. Just wood! No embedded nails or fasteners, just the wood, by itself, chipped the metal blade. Within 5 minutes the blade was so impossibly dull that it would no longer cut, and all I could use it for was to debark the rest of the stave. This tool is absolutely useless in shaping any wood but maybe balsa or pine. If you are looking for a durable tool that holds an edge and does what it is supposed to do, you will need to look elsewhere.
