Excellent no-fuss starter book.
For anyone getting started with vegetarian cooking, this is a great and easy reference. Some of the recipes you could probably have figured out on your own (add some vegetables to frozen ravioli? OK...) but most are easy to follow quickie recipes that don't use obscure ingredients. There is even a nice section on "flexetarian" choices for families that have herbivores and carnivores. It isn't high falutin', but for weeknight ideas, it is a great choice, like many of the Good Housekeeping cookbooks. If you want to dial it up a notch, you might try the Moosewood offerings, but for day in and day out stuff that tastes good, this is a fine choice.

My nephew wants to become a vegetarian, he's 9. He asked for some cookbooks for his birthday. He is enjoying this one. There are quite a few recipes he found that he wants to try. He is even thinking he (and his mom) can cook some of them together.

Wonderful for a New Vegetarian
I only recently became a vegetarian. Growing up in the Midwest, every meal was centered around meat, so when I stopped eating it, I didn't really know how to plan my meals. I checked this book out from the library and found it so helpful and the recipes so delicious that I bought it. It has suggestions on how to make most of the recipes vegan, and also has a section with meals you can add meat to, if others in your household aren't vegetarian. But my husband, a meat-eater, loves the straight vegetarian meals as much as the "flexitarian" ones. Our favorite recipe is the Nacho Casserole!

Yum!!
So far I really like this cookbook - everything I've made has been tasty. Even my family, who are not vegetarians, have enjoyed the vegetarian meals I've made from using the recipes in this book. I like that the recipes are easy to make using ingredients that I'm familiar with. I love the pictures which help me to see what my finished product should look like. I'd recommend this book.

Basic
This cookbook is basic. I have only used it a number of times. Nothing terribly exciting or innovating.

Love this book
This book offers so many great recipes for those trying to move to a plant based diet or even just participating in "Meatless Mondays." Some of the recipes can be made vegan, too. Although the recipes are not low-calorie for the most part, individuals can use caution with the addition of cheese and other high calorie add-ons.This is our new go-to cookbook.

good assortment of vegetarian recipes
good assortment of vegetarian recipes, for the newer vegetarian family. Uses plenty of everyday items, not many unusual hard to find ingredients so it is great for the flexitarian or semi-vegetarian eater. Worth the purchase.

Good for a beginner
It has good, easy-to-do recipes for someone who is new to trying to use more vegetables and less meat. But the first recipe I tried had an item in the list of ingredients that was never mentioned in the directions! And the second one I tried dirtied every pot, pan and cookie sheet in the house! It was really good though.

Fact-checking is poor
Although this book is supposedly about Family Vegetarian Cooking, I was disappointed to note that a number of the ingredients used eg parmesan are included in recipes without any mention whatsoever that these are inherently unsuitable for vegetarians. Parmesan for example is made using animal rennet as coagulant and is therefore unsuitable for vegetarians since animal rennet is a slaughter by-product and contains calves' liver.I find it so annoying when cook-books supposedly catering to vegetarians basically disregard some basic veggie facts and just pull together what seem like veggie recipes without the contributors giving them a serious once-over to make sure they are. What is even more astounding is that the editors and publishers clearly have not given any thought to the needs of their core market!!Finally I found it very annoying that this book included a whole section on recipes that included meat / poultry / fish (even if that was tucked in at the end under the title "The Flexible Vegetarian)

Great!
I bought this book for my daughter and she loves it! She likes that there are variations in the recipes to easily switch from Vegetarian to Vegan.
