Durable and Waterproof Butyl Joist Tape – Ideal for Deck Protection
I recently used this butyl joist tape for a decking project, and I’m very impressed with the results. The 5cm x 15.2m size is generous, providing ample coverage for sealing and protecting deck joists. The self-adhesive backing is strong and makes installation quick and easy. Once applied, it forms a tight, waterproof seal that helps protect the wood from moisture and rot, extending the life of the deck. The black colour blends well with most deck materials, giving a neat and professional finish. This tape is highly durable, designed to withstand outdoor conditions, and remains securely in place even after exposure to rain and varying temperatures. It also works well for repairing and sealing other wood and metal surfaces, making it versatile for various outdoor projects.Overall, this butyl joist tape is an excellent solution for anyone looking to protect and preserve their decking or other exposed wood surfaces. It’s easy to apply, long-lasting, and offers great protection against moisture. Highly recommended for DIYers and professionals alike!

Good adhesion. Backing tape doesn't come off
The product is good once stuck down. The backing tape is really thin, it tears and doesn't peel off evenly leaving strips stuck to the back of the tape. Fortunately this was only one roll after running out of another brand. It would have taken me ages to do the whole deck.

Good tape AWFUL backing
Bought two lots of this tape for a Decking project.First lot fine, does what it should. Had to buy some more.First lot has a clear fairly thick backing which has to be removed.Second lot different labelling but same stuff from same manufacturer BUT with a different backing. The second lot has a blue backing tape which rips at edges every time you remove it, leaving you try and pull off “threads” of the ripped backing.Unless you remove it it won’t adhere properly.Due to the nature of the tape it is incredibly sticky and it’s as frustrating as hell trying to remove ripped traces of this blue backing.I should have returned it as not being usable but stuck as needed to finish the decking. So I likely wasted an extra hour removing endless bits of this blue backing to use the actual tape.Clearly manufacturer has cheapened the manufacturing costs with this fragile backing which will cost you hours !!!If you get the stuff with blue backing, send it back, you’ll thank me !!!

Butyl rubber
Once you have gained the knack of taking the film off the back it is easy to apply. I used a 2" wallpaper roller to rub the butyl into the woodgrain of the joist. (The roller is the type you use to smooth down the joints in the wallpaper.) The butyl rubber just beads the water.

It sticks
Been waiting for a dry day to start fixing the deck tape to the joist to my new decking. Had to send one lot back to another company as on very dry boards it just would not stick. This product however is superb ……. and it sticks! Can’t recommend this product enough.

works well
This tape does what it says it does, and does it well. The top of my RV is light, along with the sealant i use, so the color kind of sticks out. but i knew that going into this! Doesnt loosen with the rain... yet good product!

As butyl tapes go, this is on par with the rest
Butyl tape is one of those things that make me wonder why nobody came up with it earlier... The idea is awesome, as butyl tape prevents water from sitting on the horizontal surfaces of your wood decking joists. This is especially helpful when you are replacing deck boards, as now there are holes in the joists from the old deck board fasteners. Butyl tape will prevent water from getting into the old fastener holes, while also keeping your joist surfaces free from moisture. This tape works like the rest. It has a nice, strong adhesion, and wraps nicely around new fasteners that pass through the tape, ensuring for a water-resistant space where the fasteners pass through. My only gripe about this butyl tape is the same as otherr butyl tapes out there - I wish the tape to be a little wider. Even 2-1/4" would be helpful. As this tape is 2", you need to take your time when applying to typical joist boards, so as not to deviate too far to either side, potentially leaving some surface wood exposed. I recognize I may be too picky with this, so I do not deduct and stars, but it still leaves me wanting for just a little bit wider tape. The industry should take note.Thank you for reading my review.

Worked as expected
This joist tape was perfect for my deck project. The adhesive was durable in creating a waterproof barrier between the connection of rack wood piece. Time will only tell if the water is penetrating, but thus far it is working lovely.

Adheres great!
I put the tape on a dirty, damp, pressure treated 2x6. I wanted to try it on a dirty piece of wood because I saw a few reviews that stated the tape did not stick well. In my test, the tape worked exactly as the manufacturer stated. I experienced no rolling on any of the edges. I did my test in the sun, so maybe the sun helped… just a thought. I have no problems with this tape. It adheres well, it seals around any nail or screw holes. It will protect the joists for years. I just can’t think of a way it will fail.Pro: Wide enough to cover a 2” wide joist. The adhesive is strong enough to work on dirty, damp, pressure treated wood (my test piece). It self-seals around nails and screws.Con: NoneMy take: I would use this item.Info: As a Vine reviewer, I realize how important my reviews are to consumers. I too rely on reviews in making my purchasing decisions. As such, I want to provide a valuable service to those considering purchasing the products I review. Also, since I must pay taxes on the retail value of the products I receive (in my case, about 40%—broken down as 15.3% in SS/Med taxes, and 25% Fed. Income taxes), I endeavor to provide an honest review of every item I receive.FYI, my stars are valued as follows:1 Star: Do not buy. This item has serious flaws.2 Stars: Do not buy. Not as bad as a 1 Star, but it still has major downsides.3 Stars: Buy if you can’t find an alternative. There are some issues that need worked out.4 Stars: Recommend purchase. This item met my expectations.5 Stars: I love this product.

2 inch wide tape lays down on joists easily with good edge overlap
This 2" wide joist tape is easy to apply to standard 2x joist edges. It sticks well. The film backing releases easily, without tearing. It did feel a bit thin. The product description says it is 0.75mm thick. I measured it, gently, with a digital caliper. Indeed, it was thinner than advertised at only 0.66 mm. I measured it again with the release film still on. It measured 0.68 mm. the release film measured 0.02 mm thick. so the measurements all agreed. It is thinner than other joist tapes i have used, but the extra width, good adhesion, and easy backing removal are nice characteristics of this tape. In addition, it cuts easily with scissors without gumming them up. It is easy to apply.
