Kefir is a very popular drink in Eastern Europe and was believed to have originated in the Caucasus mountains. Many people choose to drink kefir as traditionally it is believed that it may aid digestion. This may be due to the various strains of probiotic organisms in the Kefir, they may aid with digestion and also produce some B-vitamins. Some people believe Kefir may assist with immune function due to the beneficial micro-organisms in Kefir competing with harmful bacteria and microbes in the gut.
