MERKURLong-Handled Razor - Black Chrome

I have a small collection ! :), of DE razors that i have acquired over the years. DE shaving can easily become a bit of a hobby / obsession :)I bought this Merkur 20c long handle here on Amazon in June 2016 and it has become my go-to favourite. It looks stylish, the matt black (aluminium) long knurled handle gives a good grip and the shave head is very smooth and forgiving - i get none or very few nicks using this razor. Build quality is very high and both the chrome head and the black handle look as good now as on day 1 after more than 2 years of use.Compared to other DE razors, i would say its a medium but smooth shave head - it really is a good design.Only 2 small gripes - the spiral knurled handle holds soap in the grooves and needs cleaning a little more regularly, but its not a huge issue - you need an old toothbrush or just let the razor soak in hot water for a while to clean the handle. Up side is that the handle has really good non-slip grip when shaving.Secondly its a three piece razor, so takes a fraction longer to change blades - again, not a big issue.This razor head works well with any type of blade, but its smooth nature means it works a little better with a slighlty more aggressive blade type. When i am travelling or need a knick-free shave guaranteed, i can just put a mild blade in and its almost as forgiving as a cartridge razor, but you still get a DE close shave.10/10 highly recommended(BTW, Merkur do a short handled version of this same razor, confusingly called the 30c.)

Haven't used a d/e wet razor for 30 years ... was fed up with the skin irritation and prices of cartridge razors, and my electric razor can't do a clean & smooth finish. So after much checking on he various men's grooming sites & reviews decided to go for this. I'm very impressed. The razor has substantial weight so it gives a sense of presence; the razor is well-balanced and has a good grip and feel in the hand; the shave is 'mild' rather than aggressive ... I've used it for 5 days and am yet to feel any discomfort, burn, nick or need for the styptic pencil. It comes with a single Mercur blade but I've also bought a selection pack of 25 blades from Shave Lounge of Lancaster (England) to test for best match for me.A very satisfied customer. :)PS I’ve now had it for 3 months and am still delighted with it. It is a very mild shave & to supplement it for the occasions I’ve grown a long growth (I’m reminded of the lawn in my garden now 🙄) I’ve just ordered a Rockwell 6S adjustable d/e razor. Hey, I’m a fly angler, of course I’ve got more than one rod/reel/fly ... golfers will go with this 😉

I'd say more suitable for someone moving over to double edge razor or someone who may be heavy handed shaving. Fine machined build and all round razor.

Best razor I have ever had in my life!After using many other razors over the years I can say that this one is the best razor I have ever had so far.

It’s just a beautiful well balanced razor that gives me perfect shaves every time.Superbly engineered. A joy to use. Mild yet efficient, smooth, close shaves and very forgiving for beginners.Very highly recommended. Will last a lifetime when cared for and properly used. Love it.

A REALLY WELL DESIGNED RAZOR WHICH IS SLEEK AND NIMBLE AND PERFORMS EVERY BIT AS WELL AS IT LOOKS. IT IS OF MEDIUM WEIGHT WITH A BLACK SATIN FINISH ALUMINIUM HANDLE WHICH IS LOVELY TO HOLD THANKS TO ITS DEEP SPIRAL GROOVING. IT IS JUST ABOUT IMPOSSIBLE TO SLIP IN YOUR HAND WHILE IN USE.IT APPARENTLY SHARES THE SAME HEAD AS CERTAIN OTHER RAZORS IN THE MERKUR RANGE, WHICH IS JUST AS WELL SINCE IT IS EXTREMELY EASY TO USE AND PROVIDES A VERY HIGH DEGREE OF PROTECTION FROM CUTS, NICKS,ETC. IT ALSO MANAGES TO PROVIDE A NICE CLOSE SHAVE.I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL HIGH PRICED SAFETY RAZORS - BUT THIS BEATS THE LOT, BOTH AS REGARDS LOOKS AND PERFORMANCE.

This is a very nice razor to use, it's light but heavy enough not to require pressure from the hand. The handle is metal with an anodised coating, its also quite thin compared to other razors of similar design. The thin handle tool a bit of getting used to at first but it's long enough to counteract this. The knob at the end keeps the razor located in the hand during use. It's quite a mild razor so not recommended for those with heavy beard hair.

What an amazing DE razor! Good length handle and excellent grip due to the spiral cut. Lovely smooth polished head that glides across your face with very little friction. Good heft to the handle as well! It doesn't clog which is always a bonus and gives a very close shave.The only negative I can think of is the supplied blade. I didn't get on well with it but pop your preferred choice in and you're all set.After a few months use this has become my favourite DE razor. I can't recommend it enough!
