Excellent
Have an old ibm T43p thinkpad which is 12 years old, cdrom was faulty and old pata hard drive was on way out so I bought this caddy and removed old hard drive and cdrom and fitted this with a sata hard drive that I had lying about, was able to install the operating system on it via an external drive.Build quality is good and the trim is finished in the same black plastic as the laptop, also has a blue hdd activity light that shows disk activity. No instructions came with the unit but basically you screw the 4 provided screws nearly all the way into the holes on the side of the hdd, lift up the retaining clip on the caddy and slide into place... There are 4 tabs that grip the screws that you previously fitted.. Then snap the retainer into place... Slide into the laptop with power off and battery removed...My laptop didn't recognise the new drive at first but just open the disk management in Windows 10 etc and you will see it right click on it and format it etc....Over all we'll pleasedCheapest way to get an old laptop working even though I don't have a cdrom now, but who actually uses them now a days...

Fits e6420 too......
I don't usually write reviews but I spent that long trying to find a UK supplied 2nd hdd caddy for my dell latitude e6420 that, having found one suitable, I thought I would try and help others out. The caddy fits perfectly in the place of the dvd drive but like another reviewer says, the bezel is very short and leaves some of the caddy showing. The bezel and ejector button from the original dvd drive come off really easily - the bezel gentrly unclips while the ejector button is just a case of removing 3 screws and fit superbly on this new caddy. The new caddy now fits perfectly in the slot and the ejector clips perfectly. Not tried a hdd in it yet so it might not work in theory(!) but it certainly fits a treat.

Super quality and works well. Very easy to install, including under Linux
Worked a real treat in my Thinkpad 430, using an SSD and Linux, so have far more space. I now have a high quality SSD for the boot drive (Samsung Pro) and a cheap one for photos etc (backed up of course) - Crucial MX300 525GB in this case.Under Linux Mint, there's probably a few more steps than with Windows. I found it easier to create the partition and format it by placing the SSD in a caddy first and running gparted. As I formatted the drive using Ext4, it had root ownership, so had to change that. Easiest way to fix that was to start the file manager as root (sudo caja) and look at the properties of the drive - and change ownership and group to myself, with permissions to read/write.

Pleased so far
Had an old 1TB HDD that was lying around and thought I would buy an Ultrabay caddy to boost up my laptops internal storage. Looked at the price of the OEM part from Lenovo and changed my mind. However, I saw this and thought it was worth a go for the price. Anyway, it is a perfect fit in my T420 Thinkpad. The HDD was spotted immediately by Windows 7 (it did run CHKDSK at startup). Only issue is the lack of any kind of bracing for the HDD. Four HDD screws were supplied but I could not see where they would go - unless you drilled your own holes into the caddy. In summary - pleased so far and would recommend if you have a similar Thinkpad to a T420.

For a Lenovo T530
I have a Lenovo T530 and purchased this Ultrabay to replace one that I previously had (from another Amazon supplier) as it was faulty. Not all Ultrabays are created equal as the previous one fitted perfectly and the face was flush with the side of the Lenovo. However, this one, protrudes by about 2mm at the bottom but it has worked perfectly to date. If you can live with the fact that this bay protrudes slightly, then it is one to go for.

Great way of adding an extra laptop HDD - but doesn't accept 15mm deep drives
Allows a 2nd HDD to take the place of your rarely used DVD... and if you need to run a dvd you can still connect via USB - BRILLIANT. Docked 1 star from the review because I was hoping it would take a 15mm deep laptop drive - but it isn;t quite deep enough..... but you need to add foam pads to stop 7mm drives from rattling in your laptop case.

Beware - does not fit the precision m4800
Although this adapter is reasonably well constructed, it is over priced and does not fit the Dell M4800 -That said, it does not claim to fit the 4800, but since it does claim to fit the 4400 I thought I'd give it a go. The bezel is entirely the wrong shape - it's too long and has a pronounced downward slant meaning that the bezel sticks out several mm from the edge of the laptop. This is far from clear from the photos. It is functional but I can't say I'm happy with it and will have to look elsewhere for another one at some point. My three star rating is based on poor value for money and the poor photos describing the item - not the fact it did not fit my laptop properly.

Not a major issue - the T420 machines are fantastic but hardly "lookers"
Holds the HDD securely and works AOK. Minor niggle for me is that when docked in my Lenovo T420 it is not perfectly flush. The retaining clip is "locked" so it's seated as far in as possible but still maybe 1 - 2mm proud from the side of the laptop. Not a major issue - the T420 machines are fantastic but hardly "lookers". Anyway, good service from the seller, decent product that looks well made and works fine.
