Silly name, fantastic product!
Okay, I have two things to confess. First, I sniggered at the name but c'mon! It's a bottle of white sticky liquid called Stiffy. Second, and perhaps more important than my childishness for a review of this item, I was highly sceptical about this product.A bit of background: coming up to Xmas, I crochet snowflakes. Last year, I 'stiffened' them with PVA glue, which worked passably well, but they were still a bit bendy. This year, I needed something a bit firmer (no innuendo intended), so I bought this for my cotton creations. My scepticism was misplaced - this stuff turns thin thread tangles into veritable throwing stars! For reference, the snowflakes were made using a 1mm hook, so they are quite thin with no strength or structure before being blocked. After blocking and drying (I leave them to dry overnight), they are now very robust. I used the Stiffy neat, as I needed a strong finish; you might want to water it down if your fabric already has some structure or if you don't need as stiff a finish.

Add stiffness to a knitted article
It was easy to use, I used it on a knitted dolls hat, where I needed a bit of strength to shape the back of the hat. I was pleased with the result, as it wasn’t too stiff. I applied it late evening, then left it overnight to make sure it was dry. Good value for money.

Stiffens fabric but retaining some flexibility.
The product does exactly what it says. It is not a cheap alternative to Powertex however. It does not alter the colour of fabric (I have yet to try mixing it with paint, ink or pigments) although if you only applied it to a portion of fabric you would be able to tell it was there. This would make me wary about using it on a nice new roller blind as if it wasn't even it might ruin it. This does stiffen the fabric but it does not dry rock hard like Powertex does, it retains some flexibility after it is dry. If you want a product like this for wrapping bottles in fabric Powertex is the best, but it is pricey and you can achieve similar results with Mod Roc bandages (or I would assume any plaster of paris bandages) and a coat of gesso followed by paint or pigments to your taste which is much more economical. As for this product since I won't be using it to wrap bottles it will probably take me a long time to get through the bottle but it will be handy for ribbons, bows and fabric flowers so I will replace it when it runs out.

easy to use and very effective
THIS IS AMAZING! I bought something else to try on lace first and it didn't work. This however is incredible. I dipped the lace in, dried in the sun and hey presto the lace was stiff enough to spray gold and make tiaras for the party. What a wonderful product. And I have heaps left for other products. Easy to use, clean up, didn't make my skin feel funny when using it, and dried perfectly clear. Excellent.

For those who crochet in cotton.
I spend many hour doing crochet in cotton and wool, also knitted lace. It is the starching that never seems to be right, until I discovered Stiffy.Having spent hours on the work, I like a nice stiff finish to certain items. This fits the bill ideally. It can be used in small quantities for small items and add more water to give a finish that is less stiff. The bottle goes on to last for a very good period of time and, although it looks expensive, it is well worth the money.

Works really
I used this on some crochet flowers for bunting and also some tatting. Just massaged a blob on with my hands, smoothed them flat and left to dry. Worked really well. I will use it a lot- just wished I’d known about it sooner.

Did what we needed just wish it was a bit cheaper!
We were experimenting with fabric stiffener as my daughter wanted to make some fabric butterflies to go on a dress for an art project and she needed the wings to have a bit of rigidity to them so they looked like real butterflies. Her art teacher recommend fabric stiffener and we were unable to find in local shops so pleased to find on Amazon. We ordered 1 bottle to start with but ended up needing 2 more and it did get expensive, however we are really pleased with the results! It was easy to apply and seemed to work on all types of fabrics from thick velvets to thin voiles. If you want it really stiff would recommend popping fabric on a radiator to dry.
