Inspired my granddaughter to get on the trail!
After reading the "grownup version", I told my oldest granddaughter (she's 10) about the Applachian Trail and Grandma Gatewood...she was very intrigued, so as a section hiker, I decided to bring her along on a couple adventures while she visited me this summer. I bought her a 30 liter hiking pack, some items for the pack, and the book. She read the book in one sitting and was excited to get on the trail. She must have referred to the book a dozen times. She even had me buy a couple cans of sardines so we could "eat sardines on the Appalachian Trail like Grandma Gatewood". We did a day hike as well as an overnight trip (14 miles together) and ate sardines on the trail! Money well spent!

Great book for kids with historical information about another strong woman of America.
As a grandmother, I wanted to buy my grandkids a book about another grandmother who was strong and courageous. This book is just that. We enjoy spending time outdoors and want to share the benefits of nature with our family. Taking the kids on adventures and reading about them is a great way to share. The kids love this book. It’s now a family favorite. Great story with accurate historical information.

What a wonderful story about an amazing woman
What a wonderful story about an amazing woman!! I got this for my first graders and they loved it from start to finish. They were excited to see someone who would not give up on their dreams and loved how "tough" Grandma Gatewood was when she would not let failure stand in her way. It was especially appealing because I teach in Ohio and the children recognized some of the places that Grandma Gatewood visited. I am going to love using this when we write reports about famous people.

You are never too old to take a hike!!
I thought the author adequately described the dedication of this strong-willed 67 year-old woman who walked the Appalachian Trail. She also described the determination and the hassles Emma Gatewood endured, such as, the facing of a bobcat, nasty bitey blackflies, snakes, etc. when pursuing this long treacherous 2,000 mile hike. I thought it was well written and made you feel you were walking on the trail with Emma and I also enjoyed the beautiful illustrations reflecting the story.

Good book!
This book is fun to read to grandkids. The illustrations have lots of detail and give opportunity to talk with the 2 yr old about everything that's going on. Having a grandma as an assertive adventurer provides a very positive a role model that isn't usually seen.

Bonito
Llego a tiempo, es tal y como lo describen y como es en la foto. Es bonito pero la historia no me acabó de gustar y cuando la leo a los niños pequeños se led hace muy larga
