The pros of this kit is that it is small, very packable, good variety of items for price/size, and for the week hunting that I used it it seemed fairly durable. The cons are that it's silverware have very small ends (almost comical as a grown man eating steak with them) and the containers don't like to stack all the way closed at times. Bottom line, I will absolutely be using these for future hunts and outdoor activities. If your rolling out of a pack, they work well. If you're truck camping or don't have to pack your equipment in, I'd go bigger.

I purchased two of these mess kits and used them on a recent camping trip with my nine year old son. They performed superbly and didn't weigh down my pack. They are so capable, in fact, that I almost could have gotten away with one kit instead of two. My only minor critique concerns the included eating utensils. Since they are metal, they could potentially scratch the plastic of the kits, making them more difficult to thoroughly clean over time. Including a plastic spork instead would eliminate the issue and make the kits even lighter. That aside, I was very satisfied.

Great, for the price.Got this for camping with scouts. The plastic feels a bit slick, but is easy to hold. The metal cutlery work well, but are on the small side. Would have liked a cup, but the small bowl included works just as well. Biggest issue was that, when closed, the lid doesn't feel very secure. Never had it come off, just feels loose. For the money, this was a good value.

My wife and I do a lot of camping with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Everyone is always asking us about these when we pull them out. They pack away compactly, but have plenty of room in each dish for food. We tossed the "cutting boards", since we never used them. If we are going on a family backpacking trip, we only pack 2 of these to split among 4 people since both the top and bottom can be used as a plate.The seasoning shaker is just an added bonus. My son feels so cool when he gets to bring his own seasoning on a camping trip.

This kit has a top and bottom, to be used as a meal tray and bowl, a cup, metal utensils, a small cutting board and a salt shaker. I found the salt shaker to be absolutely worthless. I went to clean it before use and the covers for the spice chambers fell out. I doubt that they would hold any spices without spilling them. O ditched those and used a flat Coleman salt/Pepper shaker which fit inside the kit just fine. Overall, I would recommend, solely for the good price of the kit.

We wanted a small packed mess kit for scouts. This kit contains all the components (ie utensils inside) and even has room for the addition of a separately purchased collapsible cup. Perfect.

This is decent mess kit for what I got it for. MY boy is in cub scouts and this will serve that purpose just fine. The little bowl is rather small, and the main "big" bowl/dish is also rather small. But it will fit in his scout backpack and he can use it for meetings and campouts. The includes silverware is fine and is way better than using cheap plastic stuff, and having separate knife, fork and spoon is pretty nice. The spice bottle thing isn't being used as he is 10 years old and doesn't need to salt and pepper his food. The bottle does include three compartments so you could add some sugar or something in one side as well as salt a pepper.

I guess they made it out of plastic so that it can be used in a microwave.This is more like an urban mess kit than an outdoors one. So I use it in the office.I kinda miss the old skillet/bowl the old outdoor mess kits had.But things change...I guess the demand for the old mess kits is not that great.

Es pequeño, para porciones de una sola persona, los cubiertos están muy bien. Me dejó un mal sabor de boca lo que dice la etiqueta; el material del que están hecho es prohibido en algunos estados por que está demostrado que causan cáncer, investigué y aunque se requiere de una exposición prolongadísima para que el plástico quemado cause cáncer en alguien, yo esperaba utilizar estos platos para comida caliente en el campo y ahora no será así.

Me hubiera gustado un poco mas de calidad en el plástico, y en la forma de cerrar pero bueno por el precio se justifica, todo bien pero lo que me dio desconfianza es la leyenda que venia, donde el estado de california al tener leyes locales mas estrictas obliga a los productos a poner esta etiqueta de que contienen una concentración de plomo o alguna sustancia cancerígena mayor a 0.5 micro gramos o mcg.Por lo que en lo personal al no saber en cuales de las partes pueden estar estas sustancias, o en que concentraciones pues lo devolveré y solicitare mi reembolso.

My husband and son use these mess kits for scouts they love them . I would deffinetly buy them again . Very durable and compact they can fit them in their backpacks easily . My only suggestion would be if you could buy replacement cutlery as they are small and clip together but my son had manage to lose a knife and fork already ... Be great if I could buy extra sets just for this kit they are smaller then standard sizes .

The pieces included in the kit are useful, but the material does not seem high quality. The lid only closes loosely. There is a warning sticker (for California resident) that some material used may cause cancer, birth defects, and reproductive issues.The item is okay enough that I am keeping it. However, I will not buy this again when I need a replacement.
