Character development.
A show like this will have your emotions going up and down. But every season is a ride this was no different.

Another excellent season of this fine show; so glad it's survived
Season 6 of this modern TV version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous detective continues to deliver clever mysteries solved each episode by this unconventional Holmes and Watson. The chemistry of the leading cast members is excellent; Johnny Lee Miller’s acerbic Holmes is tempered by Lucy Liu’s kinder and gentler Watson. Aidan Quinn and Jon Michael Hill as NYPD’s Captain Gregson and Detective Bell are strong supporting players and together they make a dynamic crime fighting team. We ended Season 5 with Sherlock’s mental health in question and while his subsequent diagnosis and recovery consume some of our time it doesn’t dominate the series- crimes continue to get solved. There’s a sub-plot involving a serial killer who ‘befriends’ Holmes that is intriguing but again does not overshadow what “Elementary” does best, and that is to keep our principles cracking complex cases each show. It’s not entirely perfect; sticklers who have been trained by years of watching police procedurals might take issue with small details like why nobody ever wears shoe covers at any of the crime scenes or question how two civilians have such unfettered access to NYPD records and online data? In one episode Marcus is clearing a house of a suspected killer and walks right past a closet door, never opens it, and announces “clear”…uh, not really. It’s pretty apparent that the showrunners and writers were well aware of the series’ precarious future with the network (confirmed in the special features). My understanding this season was initially only planned to be 12 episodes with a spring debut instead of the standard fall airing. However, when some of CBS’ new shows tanked they needed something else to run and extended the season to 21 episodes. We find Marcus possibly leaving the NYPD for a position with the U.S. Marshals Service, Gregson seems to be recognizing retirement is in his near future, and Watson decides to pursue adopting a child; all of these elements having the potential of being possible ways to wrap up each characters story arc if the plug was to be pulled. Not to mention the big finale episode and all that occurs within which I won’t spoil for those who haven’t seen it yet. Happily, “Elementary” was renewed for a seventh season that due to circumstances moves our duo to London and resumes their story a year after the events at the sixth season’s conclusion. I’m hoping this fine series continues as long as possible; in a sea of ridiculous reality programs “Elementary” offers viewers’ superb entertainment that makes you think. Now if we can just get Joan to stop wearing so many man-suits and neckties…

Despite network shenanigans, an excellent season
The producers of "Elementary" really had no idea until about halfway through the year whether they were going to be limited to 13 episodes or be allowed to complete an entire season.Despite that, the writers, producers, cast and crew crafted an excellent season full of interesting characters and plots.Season Five ended with Sherlock facing a serious medical issue, one that might end his career as a detective because it affected his ability to think coherently. Because the network couldn't make up its mind whether or not Season Six was going to be a full or half season, the writers and producers were not able to fully explore all the ramifications of that illness. Despite that, they were able to tell some very good stories, come up with a really unique villain, and - though it seemed a little thin - explain Sherlock's recovery. Finally notified that they would have a full season's worth of episodes, the writers and producers managed to come up with even more intriguing storylines and characters and a nice twist at the end of the year.As usual, Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu were terrific as Holmes and Watson but I think I would be remiss if I did not also heap a huge amount of praise on the rest of the cast. Working under the most trying of conditions - unsure whether they were filming the final season of the show or not - they performed brilliantly. An excellent season all around. Looking forward to Season Seven.

Still a favorite, but prepare for disappointment
I really love this show, and still recommend purchasing, but..I’m a bit disappointed in a plot point or two plus knowing there’s only a few episodes after this and they are canceling the show. There really aren’t many shows as intelligently written, complex, with such great actors. Just sad they couldn’t get support for a few more seasons. Spoiler alert..stop reading now. My disappointment in this season stems from the Capt Gregson and his daughter covering up a murder she’s committed and both of them letting Watson take the fall. In another season, when Watson helped her out and Hannah screwed up by not doing the right thing, Gregson takes Watson’s side and says “I don’t think you should help her anymore. She wants what she wants and I love her, but, she is what she is,” so, I feel like this wasn’t at all how these characters would have behaved. Gregson also has several arcs showing he’s a stickler for not cutting corners and even slugged Holmes for torturing the man he at first thought killed Irene/Moriarty, so, suddenly him covering up evidence and letting Watson be accused of murder just doesn’t fit.

Love the show, hate the delivery
Luckily the DVDs still work, or at least they seem to when I put each of them in the player, but for a "new" set of DVDs, it looks rather like someone threw it down a hill several times, or possible ran a nail file over every edge, before packaging it for shipping. It's a great show, though, and this season wrapped things up so beautifully that I haven't been able to bring myself to watch the last season. I'd just recommend buying the DVDs for it from somewhere other than Amazon, if you can.

Starstruck
What a season.Every chapter makes sense. Filled with humor, but also passion on an understandable level, this season bowled me over. When Sherlock quotes Rilke, Watson gets attacked, or discusses care with her mom, and baby-proofing is on the agenda, I realize how absolutely well written and well acted this series is.Jonny Lee Miller is superb when he confronts the fact that he may suffer from PCS which could impact his work. Toucing, heart wrenching. Acting Miller thrills me here. The character of Michael (Desmond Harrington) is so evil, so calculated. Makes me look at attractive good looking souls with an inner terror…what are they hiding? What a good choice to act opposite Sherlock.I am an everlasting fan of this show

Ending with a bang
Knowing that this was going to be the final season of the series made this a bitter sweet watch for me. That being said, knowing this made for an amazing group of stories and arcs for the season as the cast and director had the opportunity to tie up events, and tackle ideas that an ongoing series would generally be too timid to play with. It also came across, in the actors arguably giving the best performances, in my opinion, they could. So, I have to sum up, this was so very much worth the watch for me and even though I'm saddened to see it end I'm glad they had the opportunity to finish it unlike so many other series that get cancelled and never get the chance

Continues with the excellent series for a sixth season
I've really enjoyed binge watching each season of Elementary when the DVDs come out. The quality of writing and acting in the series has continued to remain high, with no element of the seasons starting to get corny or weak. There's the expected threads running through the season and the series, which add to the episodes. There's still the dynamics between the two stars, and a sense of humour underlying just about everything, which I like. The DVDs are fine, although I would have preferred BluRay (which I could not find for this season), and I enjoyed the binge sessions immensely. I wish they would not wait so long between releases, and maybe squeeze a few more seasons in to keep me entertained. Fun!

Satisfying end to a thoroughly enjoyable series
I was sorry to see Sherlock and Joan go off the air... The final story line which resulted in that happening was dramatic and pulled the viewer in different emotional directions. Empathy and compassion, conflicting loyalties, a good result for a bad guy. But... more grey than black and white. And yet I was very happy to watch the final scene!

Sit back and Enjoy
I enjoyed this version of Sherlock Holmes story from the first episode , it was a different look at the characters and it was well done. So just sit back and enjoy the ups and downs of Sherlock and Dr Watson
