Q: How big around is the grip area where you hold it? I have the purple 1 1/4 inch model and it's thick and hard to control with one hand.

My barrel is 3/4" and grip is about 1.4" around. I had the bigger barrel, but it was too big and I took it back.

Q: what length of hair does this work with??

I love this product and my hair is very short. Some clarification ... my hair is short and kinky. So after I wash it, I press it with a straightening comb (about 4 minutes work). Then I use the InStyler. If you want more curls, you might also want to follow the InStyler with a curling iron.

Q: Is it a good for straightening thick hair?

Definitely-----just do small prices at a time! I was shocked at how wonderfully it worked!!!
