A 2nd disturbing installment of this vicious deconstruction of superhero stories
The Boys is an occasionally brilliant, always vicious deconstruction of superhero stories, asking questions about what would superheroes REALLY be like (anyone with lots of power and no accountability, really) and why on earth do we assume any of them would be GOOD guys? It can be disturbing enough in its themes, before adding the raunch factor the author seems to revel in. Both the first and second installments seem to contain a REALLY upsetting amount of homophobia - mostly from bad characters who aarent meant to be agreed with or emulated. So it is hard to say whether the casual and sometimes brutal homophobia is a commentary on its evils, or just background the author didn't consider enough. I'm giving the benefit of the doubt here, and eating it highly (4/5) on the assumption it is meant to be a commentary AGAINST such attitudes, but the fact that I have to ask . . .

As with preacher
I am enjoying this enough to choke down the language. The plots are complex; that's what's different about this series. Good read if you can stand the vulgar language. I would expect, especially Butcher the leader , and obviously a keen mind, could speak a sentence occasionally without employing the f word an the c word. It's distracting but still I read. I guess that's what the writers figure.Calling them out though, it is unnecessary.

This sylish, hard bitten series continues into adventure and more...
Not for the tame of taste or the weak of heart and NOT for the younger kids; this tale gives you an infinitely focused and demonstrably realistic examination of the potential for an alternate future with SuperHumanism as a regular occurring item and no small threat to the daily conduct of larger parts of humanity, especially any poor unfortunate humane that suffers direct contact with the "Supes"When superheros misbehave, as they all pretty much seem bent on doing, then you would be VERY grateful for Butcher, Wee Hughie, Mother's Milk, the Female and Frenchman on your side. This volume does a very good job of some exposition on the "Supes" generally [and one specifically with a very hard problem to solve] as well as finding the whole team in frozen Mother Russia for a little visiting of old friends, a bit of drinking and a lot of save Save SAVE the stupid world. If you have found Transmetropolitan to be entertaining to the eyeball and took any pleasure in the sour sweet tales of The Preacher and the beautiful depth of characterizations found in both then hopefully The Boys will slap you in the right places....My understanding = this tale is promised for about six "volumes" so here's hoping it doesn't fizzle away like Desolation Jones - I'm going to find a Comix House and get MY subscript underway ASAPI wish you Peaxe and excellent reading,Rev. D.

Supes vs. the butcher
Another intensely creative piece. Why these stories don’t transfer to the big screen is an absolute mystery to me. In this hyper Capitalist hell hole we live in where everything is profit driven, this ought to be a no brainer! C’mon boys! There’s money to be made!

Hilarious
Garth Ennis continues what he started in Vol. 1 of THE BOYS. Which is skewering the cliches of the comic book super-hero genre. In this one he absolutely destroys a Batman/Iron Man type character by making him a sex addicted psychological wreck. His take on the "Robin' type character is LOL. The same cast of characters from vol.1 are in play here as they attempt to keep the'capes'in check. There are 2 story arcs in this book which features a lot of dialogue between 'the Boys' as they go about exposing the hypocricies of super-heroes and their images. There is a scene wher BUTCHER and WEE HUGHIE go to a comic book store to meet up with an operative and as they peruse the comics on display BUTCHER gives a scathingly hilarious narrative describing the heroes true nature's- "She's got a c*ck, he's a poof,he's a kiddie fu**er, etc." and on and on it goes. Some of the funniest stuff I've ever read. I showed this book to a buddy of mine who is not into comics at all and he found it to be completely hilarious. If you liked vol.1 of THE BOYS, you need to pick this one up as well.

Falling apart
The comics story itself is great but the comic is falling apart I've had it for a week and pages are falling out its coming unbinded was suppose to be brand new but when it showed up the pages were wrinkled and the spine was a bit damaged and now it's coming undone pics included not sure if it's because it's an older printing but still the ad said brand new but it's falling apart like a used book disappointed

Enjoy!
First of all, like Preacher, know that this is an ADULT series, NOT for kids. And if you love your Marvel and DC superhero stories, you aren't going to like The Boys very much, or maybe you will. An open mind is a gloriously capable one. Ennis satirizes the superhero genre down to it's barest of bones here and not at all respectfully, it's absolutely delicious. And, as Garth Ennis fans have come to expect, the boundaries of what you can say and do in a graphic novel will be stretched. In the end it's an incredibly imaginative story that is very well drawn, often utilizing the drawing style of the original "supes" that Ennis is Mocking. Enjoy!

Another solid volume
Really liked this volume, seeing the boys tackle a supe with an out of control sex drive while trying to solve a related murder, then heading off to Russia and getting stuck in the middle of a supe fuled coup led by vought and a tiny crazy Russian . Looking forward to checking out volume 3, you know what you're getting here, if you liked volume 1, keep reading, one of my favourite characters so far is love sausage

Thumbs Up.
The opening volume of The Boys had some shocking gratuity and a subtle moral message. Volume two switches these around in that the shocks and profanity have almost disappeared and the morality and complex and wordy story has come to the fore. This seems an abrupt change of pace. We learn little of our established characters in favour of telling two self-contained mysteries. The first is a murder mystery which unsubtly pokes a finger at how homophobic our society is and second is a lament on the passing of Mother Russia and an extended cock joke. The two stories are quite bold statements but feel like a detour, allowing us to catch our breath after the first traumatic instalment. The art is as good as ever with strong characterisation, some good visual storytelling and sight gags. Some nice panels here and there but the art is more serviceable than ground-breaking. There are an awful lot of talking heads so maybe in future there will be more time to shine. Thumbs Up.
