Makes good paninis and pancakes
This works just as well as our more expensive version. We use it for panini s often. Less so for pancakes. We have not used for other types of cooking. The lack of on/off has been fine for our use, though it seems like a strange design choice by the manufacturer.

Love this thing!
I was hesitant to buy it with the mixed reviews, but they sell it at Costco, which means they stand behind the quality of it, so we gave it a shot. We've had it about a month now and have used it regularly. It's a sturdy, cute little thing that does exactly what it needs to do without taking up a ton of space. We're so happy about it!The negative reviews seem to be from people that don't use this as directed by the instruction manual.Heating: it heats in about 6min to high, which is perfectly reasonable. It's quicker than a stovetop. If you let it heat all the way first, there are no problems getting your food cooked hot.Plates & Cleaning: The plates aren't too heavy, but they do get a nice sear. I love that you can take them completely off for cleaning. The non-stick coating is fantastic. I LOVE that it's not Teflon. I would not put these in the dishwasher, as other reviews have mentioned about the backs not being coated, but they're so easy to clean it's not necessary. Wash with soap and water then put them back on to dry.Safety: They latch in and out with small hooks, using a button you have to hold down. You do have make sure they are secure, but this no big deal.I also like that you have to unplug it fully to turn it off. This thing gets HOT and it helps avoid accidental burns, particularly with kids around, by completely unplugging it when you're done.

Cooks well
Like how this cooks hamburgers. Grease does build up on plates. If you like cooking in grease then you will love this.

Horrible customer service
Two years old hardly used, made extremely cheap. I called Blue Diamond customer service to try to get parts just to fix the knob that broke they didn't help at all. Blue Diamond said since I had qualified appliance repair technician take it apart to find out why is was not working Blue Diamond said the warranty void. Blue Diamond refused to send parts or to fix it. I will be buying another one from another brand. I rather pay more to get better customer service than buying something that is cheap and lasting more than 2 years and only used less than 12 times. Sad that companies make appliances so cheap that fill up our landfills.

Top plate keeps falling
I like the fact that it is toxics free, but the top plate doesn't stay up and it is annoying. Especially when it is too hot to put it back.

Ony one little flaw but please read on.
i love everything about the Blue Diamon sizzler griller except for one flaw. the hooks you slide the upper plate into when the heat gets to it after a while with consistent use the screw becomes very loose and what happens is the hook gives out and starts to wiggle and it loses its grip on the upper plate and the top plate falls down on top of the food. now what i was thinking in the future for you to make your product a little bit safer is use a raised lock washer on all the hot plate screw holes all four of them the hooks that fasten and secure the plates. that way when it does heat up it only has enough play to loosen as far as the screw starts to turn but the lock washer will hold it in place. you are very welcome if my insight was any use to you. but it is a very simple solution.

Average...at best
I've now had this product for nearly a year, and have used it in multiple ways. Honestly, I'm fairly disappointed. The coating is holding up okay, but I'm extremely finicky about it. However, the unit itself is average at best. When using it as a panini press or grill press or especially a waffle iron, the back of the plates never align so the top & bottom cooking surfaces are uneven. On top of that frustration, I've noticed that the top heating elements are not even close to evenly matched to the bottom heating elements. While that's typical in many similar units, these appear to be nearly a full level off. For example, if I'm cooking grilled cheese, I can set the unit to it's highest heat (sear) and place the sandwich onto the preheated griddle or grill plate. While the bottom plate will eventually brown nicely, the top plate will not likely get browned at all before the bottom eventually begins to burn. I've actually taken to cooking grilled cheese at a much lower heat and THEN flipping them...on a grill/panini press. That's so ridiculous.I was most excited for the waffle iron as I had only a Belgian waffle maker. The Blue Diamond unit looked promising, but since the waffle plates do not meet, the waffles cook very unevenly and as we're a gluten free family, those batters tend to be much thicker. This means that the waffle must be overcooked on the front (where the plates actually meet) to be mostly cooked at the back (where they're at least 1/2" apart or more).I'll keep it at this point, but I'm terribly disappointed in its efficiency and lack of overall usefulness.
