Fantastic forge!!! No idle time waiting for your steel to heat up. Capable of anything you need.
I can't believe how awesome this forge is. The burners burn clean and blue and are easy to fine tune. The heavy gauge steel body with 2" of insulation kept the interior hot throughout with no cold spots. Easily capable of forge welding even with only 2 burners running.Fuel consumption is good. I ran the forge for 3+ hrs and used 1/2 - 2/3 of a 20 lb propane tank. I'm still experimenting with the pressure so I'm expecting even better results next time I fire it up and continue to dial it in.I did make one modification, which was to make a retention clip for the rear door to keep it clamped shut for better heat retentionDetails / additional notes:After a lot of thought and research I purchased a DFPROF3+1D/2" through Amazon. I needed to upgrade from my old forge since it wasn't getting hot enough to forge weld. The forge arrived in perfect shape with everything nicely wrapped for shippingAfter applying the rigidizer and assembly, it was time to fire up the forge for it's first run.I set the air gap on the burners to 8mm and 0.1 on the pressure gauge. Fine tuning the flame took about 2 min and all 3 burners were firing perfectly. The forge body is solid and well constructed with a spacious interior. Because there is so much space inside the, I wanted to see how it would handle running only 2 burners and if a cold spot would develop at the back.I turned off burner #3 and put 2 Damascus billets in.My billets heated up quickly and within 15 - 20 minutes, they were already at forge welding temperature with only the first 2 burners running.I backed the pressure off to 0.05 and it was still crazy hot. As I'm drawing out my billets and the steel is getting longer and stretching to the back of the forge, I'm watching the back to see how hot it's staying since I'm only running 2 burners. The entire inside of the forge was a nice even heat even in the back with just 2 burners running. Each heat time was 5 - 10 min after that so there is no idle time waiting for the steel to get hot. Pretty much every I finished drawing out one of my billets the other one was hot enough to draw out.I dropped the pressure down to 0.03 and still had good heat all the way through.Next time I fire it up, I'll start at 0.05 and see how it goes. All these notes are from the initial setup and firing, so it will only get better from here.So happy with my purchase and it's capable of doing anything you would ever need from knives to axes, spears, etc. Maybe someday I'll even make a sword.I recommend this forge to anyone who is looking for a one size fits all can-do-anything solution for your shop.Update:After 6 months, the forge is still performing very well. I can forge weld easily and really enjoy using it.
