Headset gamers that need Optical, this is the answer!
When I went from PS4 to PS5 I was disappointed it didn't have an optical output. I use a Steelseries GameDAC with Beyerdynamic headphones so the optical out is a must!I've been using the Astro HDMI extractor with mixed results. First, the sound wasn't as good as the PS4 optical out. Second, the audio was frequently dropping out with the Astro adapter.Today I finally received this unit and was able to test it out. First of all the original quality and fidelity that the Ps4 had was returned! Sounded MUCH better than the Astro adapter. Also, the audio drops were gone! For all of you headset folks needing optical for PS5, this is the answer! Still need to test the 4k120hz claim..

Great for gaming.
I use Xbox series x and use Astro A40 headset with mix amp. My experience. I can run 1440p at 120hz or whatever your tv can do. Optical out to the Astro mix amp works great. Enhanced sound quality and it appears picture quality is more crisp. The usb to the mix amp from the Xbox have to be connected with the optical from this audio extractor for party chat to work. HDMI 2.1 cables is a must. For Xbox headset format is the only format that works. Other sound profiles are for av receivers. Audio is crisp and volume is increased. Do not force settings your tv doesn’t have it can give a bad picture quality. Also VRR doesn’t work screen flickers when cycling through the game. Lastly the avstar and this have the same setup. The avstar didn’t work. Ezcoo did. GG’s!

This just doesn't work
This didn't work at all. I cannot even get video out of this device; I can swap it out with a coupler and it works fine, but for me, using a Gigabyte M32U monitor, it just does not work. I've updated the monitor to the latest firmware (f11, date 2022-12-23), I've tried multiple 8k HDMI cables, and I can't even get it to connect to the monitor.I special ordered 2 8k 1.5' HDMI cables, still nothing.I've followed the suggestions of enabling 120Hz. Nothing. It just doesn't work. And I spent so much time trying to make it work, it's past the return window. So, if you have a gigabyte M32U, don't even bother. Probably fine with a 1080P or something, but it's supposed to work at 4k @ 120hz, and it just doesn't

Great Audio extractor
Up today, there is no Dolby Atmos audio downmixer available in any audio extractor or player. However, Atmos is a substream of True-HD and compatible. So my SONY UHD player that can't recognize Atmos can take Atmos as True-HD to stream out with video. Then this extractor downmixes True-HD to 2 channels sent to the optical S/PDIF port. The results of audio quality are excellent. Software-based downmixer, like UHD players in Windows PC, can not comete.I like 7.1 with all the decent speakers at each channel and a good receiver, not the soundbar. But that will need a lot of wiring. I hate it.

Awesome hdmi extractor!!
This is the perfect extractor for the ps5 if you are using the Astro A40 or A50 headsets with the optical audio cables. You get 4K @120hz, VRR, HDR, and Dolby audio all from this device. The only mode it works in with the ps5 for me anyways is the COPY mode but I’ve been happy with the results this far!

Does what it's supposed to
I needed a device that can passthrough 1440p@120hz HDR from my PS5 to my monitor while extracting 5.1 audio via optical to my headset/GC7. This does exactly that.I'm able to play GOW Ragnarok with high frame rate mode on at 1440p. I don't have a 4k display to test but my monitor has "virtual 4k" or "4k input", meaning I can set the resolution on my PS5 to 4k and the monitor will downscale it to 1440p. When doing this I'm able to turn on VRR, 120hz output, and HDR.

It mostly works
After applying the firmware update, this worked far better. However, applying the firmware update was a bit of a challenge. But it does work.

Simply does what it advertises to do!
Does it exactly what I want without sacrificing picture quality, I get all 120fps on my Xbox Series X along with the audio sent to my sound bar or my headset if I so choose. Very happy with this purchase, highly recommend this product!
