Goodbye, Eri

Goodbye Eri
One weird thing about my relationship with Tatsuki Fujimoto as an artist is that his main work, Chainsaw Man, is a story I never connected with and hated my time reading. However, last year I watched the adaptation of his work, Look Back, and it was my second favorite film of the entire year. Now, I read this one shot, Goodbye Eri, and I finished all of it in a single sitting, I am absolutely in love with this story.I can probably write 50 paragraphs about this story and how it covers the relationship between an artist and his or her creation, but I don’t need to do that because the story speaks for itself, if you haven’t already or are hesitant, I highly recommend giving this manga a shot.

Can you film me while I die?
From the madman who made Chainsawman and Fire Punch comes a strangely heartfelt story about a young boy who gets asked to do an almost impossible task. Can you film me while I die? This story will make you laugh, probably make you cry, and definitely make you question what the hell you just read at the end.

You won’t regret reading this book
Seriously one of the best pieces I’ve ever read. The story is emotional, funny, and had me constantly thinking about it all once I finished.

Tatsuki Fujimoto is a huge film enthusiast, which anyone who has read chainsaw man, fire punch, or his other one shots can confirm. Fujimoto does an absolutely amazing job at drawing and telling a story which feels like a motion picture, despite being in the form of a manga. His paneling is exemplary as he displays well scenes which are made to form a fine line between reality, and filmography. I also think this is some of Fujimoto's best art displayed. The overall quality of the character designs, especially facial expressions (which he has always been good at) are high. This plot and theme of this story are also things that can be discussed, interpreted, and analyzed for a while after reading since Fujimoto leaves much that can be interpreted in various ways.

Didnt resonate with me, but was interesting.
Exaggerated drama, a little twisted, a little morbid. Gave it a try, found it "ok", but easy to read.BUTThe writing was solid. Good art. Characters developed (it ~is a Character piece, not really a traditional story). Pacing was slow but appropriate for the style, and the ending had me thinking after closing the book.A notable point in the character writing is that many styles of Japanese ..... templates? ... dont always translate well in the west and can be hard to take serious. But while a bit over saturated, the characters were quite comfotable to follow and I think it tells what it wanted to.I dont regret reading it, and there is an audience for this that should read it.EDIT - Im been trying to describe the feel for it, and I kinda want to say its like a morbid Wes Anderson story.
